Duties
- Assist patients during eye exams by preparing equipment, taking vital signs, and recording medical history
- Perform intake procedures, including verifying insurance information and updating medical records in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms
- Conduct preliminary assessments of visual acuity and perform basic tests following aseptic techniques to ensure safety and hygiene standards
- Measure and fit eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other optical devices with attention to detail and patient comfort
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient interactions, medical records, and billing information in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Support ophthalmologists and optometrists during examinations by preparing tools, adjusting equipment, and ensuring a sterile environment
- Manage front desk responsibilities including scheduling appointments, answering patient inquiries, and facilitating smooth clinic operations
- Assist in retail sales of eyewear products by applying retail math principles to recommend suitable options while providing excellent customer service
Skills
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology related to the eye, and medical terminology relevant to ophthalmology
- Proven experience in optical settings or ophthalmology clinics with familiarity in medical office procedures
- Ability to perform intake assessments, take vital signs accurately, and follow aseptic techniques diligently
- Proficiency with EMR systems such as Epic or other electronic health record platforms for documentation and billing purposes
- Excellent patient care skills with a compassionate approach to diverse patient populations, including pediatrics when needed
- Basic understanding of medical coding and billing processes to support clinic operations effectively
- Retail sales experience combined with retail math skills to assist patients in selecting eyewear options confidently
