Pay: $16.00
Hours /FLSA status: Non-Exempt, Part-Time (20 hours)

The library is seeking a Maker Space Specialist to support a dynamic, hands-on learning environment that encourages exploration, creativity, and skill-building. This position works directly with patrons to provide instruction, guidance, and support using Maker Space tools and technologies, while also helping to design programs that inspire curiosity and innovation. The Maker Space Specialist plays an important role in expanding access to technology and creative opportunities for the community.
Position Summary: The Maker Space Assistant provides patron training in the maker spaces and
virtually. They plan programs and offer one-on-one training and group instruction. They use their
creativity to promote maker space equipment to the public.
Essential Job Functions: This list is illustrative, but not exhaustive for this position.
- Creates programming and projects for the public utilizing maker space machines.
- Works with patrons to create projects and bring their ideas to life.
- Ability to troubleshoot and update maker space equipment and software.
- Conducts orientation training in-person and virtually.
- Works with Maker Space Specialists at other branches to coordinate services and programs.
- Helps cover public service desks as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Proficiency with PCs, electronic devices, and MS Office software.
- Enthusiasm and aptitude for technology and maker spaces.
- Organization, efficiency, and creativity skills.
- Ability to work with people of all ages including staff, volunteers, and the general public.
- Ability to teach adult learners in a classroom setting, virtually, or one-on-one.
- Able to work accurately and independently with minimum supervision and dependable work habits.
Minimum Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Has reliable transportation to meet work obligations.
- Successful completion of background check.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to use hands and fingers, grasp, handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls –including computers, phones, and office equipment.
- Able to read computer screens and print materials.
- This position requires alternate standing, sitting, and walking.
- Must be able to bend, reach, and can lift up to 40 pounds or more on occasion.
