Owns the quality initiative of new parts, processes, or New Product Introduction (NPI) for AP1 Laundry Operations. Establish sustainable long-term factory ownership and success. Manages problems that require independent problem solving and self-direction. Independently manages projects for assigned area and develops and executes quality systems. Requires limited supervision and advanced knowledge of engineering, quality, and/or Laundry product line.

How You'll Create Possibilities

  • The AQE has ownership and responsibility for new tooling/equipment qualifications in their assigned area. The AQE will become the process expert for that area.
  • The AQE develops a robust qualification plan to evaluate capability for each new piece of tooling/equipment brought into AP1. The AQE will work with the AME, factory team, and OEM to deliver quality tooling, equipment, and processes.
  • The AQE travels to OEM manufacturing sites for planning meetings, runoffs, and significant production runs. The role also requires getting approval from top before equipment ships from supplier.
  • The AQE leads gage development for gages required for production. Utilize GEAs gage specification process. Gain buy-off from cross-functional team on design and inspection quantities/frequencies.
  • The AQE leads dimensional analysis meetings of measurement results from new tools/equipment. The AQE builds consensus with design engineers and management to develop next steps.
  • The AQE learns and utilizes GEA’s 9-step process to integrate quality into the design as early as possible. The AQE participates in drawing reviews.
  • Complete PPAP (production part approval process) for newly introduced in-house parts, assemblies, and processes.
  • The AQE develops traceability solutions for each piece of equipment and process in their area. Implement digital footprints and poke-yoke solutions. This may include vision systems, pick systems, test systems, genealogy, and line interlocks. The AQE leads and pulses team members for progress on projects.
  • Act as the liaison between product design and manufacturing operations to ensure issues with NPIs and new equipment are addressed to achieve world class manufacturing.
  • Drive projects within NPIs and new tooling/equipment that positively impact Cost-of-Quality (COQ): scrap, factory yield, concessions, damage, service calls, etc.
  • Lead cross-functional team PFMEAs to understand the risks of new part/process changes. Ensure cross-functional team members develop plans to mitigate the most significant risks prior to product launch.
  • Interface with assembly line team leaders to develop standard work and job instructions that define what is critical.
  • Execute fastener drive-fail studies on new joints to validate torque requirements.
  • Responsible for all Quality Manufacturing System (QMS) documentation including MCPs (control plans), MCIs (control instructions), and FRMs (forms), that adhere to the standards ISO 9001.
  • Understand GE Appliances technical drawings, both MBD/GD&T and linear dimensions to ensure the quality plans established meet drawing specifications.
  • Execute measurement plans that may include 3D part scanning, CMM, hand gages, or other methods of analysis.

What You'll Bring to Our Team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or Technical field
  • 5-years of relevant experience
  • Leadership and effective communication experience in the definition, design, implementation and troubleshooting of manufacturing processes.
  • Self-starter and influencer – metric driven and willing to work with cross-functional teams and hourly workforce.
  • Excellent project tracking and detailed planning skills required.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Influencer and team player – drive quality metrics but willing to look at the bigger picture.
  • Good communicator – data driven, makes decisions based on the data. Speaks up in meetings along with leading meetings with a strong passion for world class quality.
  • Experience interpreting data to solve manufacturing problems.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and experience with injection molding processes are a plus.
  • Capability using, programming, and interpreting CMM and 3D scanning.
  • Significant experience in high volume manufacturing operations.
  • Skilled using Polyworks.
  • Proficient understanding and the ability to interpret GD&T MBDs/drawings.


Working Conditions:

  • Business casual dress attire
  • 70% office leading meetings / scoping / planning / etc.
  • 30% factory environment understanding the people / processes / troubleshooting / coordinating part qualifications / etc.
  • Support GE Appliances AP1 Laundry Operations.
  • Role is based in Louisville, Kentucky.
  • First shift hours, but occasional weekends and off-shift hours may be necessary.
  • <20% travel. Travel is typically minimal but could have some periods of heavy travel for equipment run-offs and qualification.
  • Rental car, gas, hotel room, and meal are paid for by GE Appliances when traveling with a company provided T&L card.
