The Lead Reach Truck Operator is responsible for overseeing daily warehouse operations involving reach truck activities while acting as the primary communication link between upper management and the warehouse team. This role ensures workload distribution, productivity, accuracy, and safety standards are met. The Lead Reach Truck Operator supports team members, maintains proper documentation, and promotes a clean, organized, and safe working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Communication
- Serve as the main point of contact between upper management and the reach truck/warehouse team.
- Relay instructions, operational updates, and expectations clearly and promptly.
- Provide guidance, support, and direction to team members during daily operations.
- Assist in training new employees on equipment operation, safety procedures, and workflow processes.
Operational Duties
- Operate reach trucks safely and efficiently to move, stack, and organize materials.
- Assign and distribute daily workloads to ensure operational goals and deadlines are met.
- Monitor team productivity and adjust task assignments as needed to maintain optimal workflow.
- Perform quality checks on completed tasks to ensure accuracy and adherence to company standards.
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete all required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner (e.g., inventory logs, equipment checklists, productivity records).
- Report equipment malfunctions, safety incidents, and workflow concerns to management promptly.
- Assist with cycle counts, inventory management, and documentation as required.
Safety & Work Environment
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and hazard-free workspace.
- Ensure all team members follow proper safety protocols and equipment procedures.
- Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a reach truck operator; certification required.
- Previous leadership or team-lead experience is strongly preferred.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
- Solid understanding of warehouse operations, safety regulations, and inventory processes.
- Ability to lift, move, and stack materials as required.
Work Environment
- Fast-paced warehouse environment involving heavy equipment, varying temperatures, and frequent movement.
- Requires standing, lifting, and operating reach trucks for extended periods.
