Chaplain Service Musician (Pianist/Organist)

GD Resources LLC is seeking a qualified and professional Chaplain Service Musician to provide musical accompaniment for worship services and special religious occasions at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System Chapel. The selected candidate will support Veterans, families, Chaplains, and staff by providing high-quality music ministry services for Catholic Mass, Protestant Services, and other scheduled chapel events.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong musical proficiency, professionalism, adaptability to multiple faith traditions, and the ability to work respectfully within a healthcare and Veterans Affairs environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide piano and/or organ accompaniment for scheduled Sunday worship services.
• Support current Sunday services, including:
  • Catholic Mass (currently 8:30 AM)
  • Protestant Worship Service (currently 10:00 AM)
• Perform musical accompaniment for additional chapel services, ceremonies, holidays, funerals, memorials, and special events as requested.
• Prepare and rehearse music selections provided by Chaplain Service staff prior to services.
• Collaborate professionally with Chaplains and religious leaders from various denominations.
• Demonstrate flexibility in adapting musical styles and arrangements based on worship requirements.
• Utilize sight-reading, improvisation, and vocal support as needed during services.
• Maintain professionalism and respect while working in a Veterans healthcare environment.
• Arrive punctually and prepared for all scheduled services and rehearsals.

Required Qualifications

• Proficiency in at least one accompanying instrument, preferably piano or organ.
• Strong keyboard technique and musical interpretation skills.
• Ability to perform a wide range of religious and liturgical music for both Catholic and Protestant worship services.
• Proficiency in sight-reading music.
• Ability to improvise and adapt arrangements when necessary.
• Understanding of worship space acoustics and sound dynamics.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively with Chaplains and Chapel staff.
• Reliable attendance and professional demeanor.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience supporting church, chapel, or worship services.
• Experience working in interfaith or multi-denominational environments.
• Vocal accompaniment experience preferred.
• Experience working in healthcare, military, or Veterans Affairs environments is a plus.

Security & Compliance Requirements

Selected candidates must:

• Successfully pass a background investigation and fingerprint screening.
• Comply with all Department of Veterans Affairs security and badging requirements.
• Complete required VA training, including TMS security and privacy courses.
• Maintain an active and accessible personal or professional email account for onboarding and compliance notifications.
• Adhere to all VA privacy, security, and information protection policies.

Schedule

• Primarily Sundays for scheduled worship services.
• Additional weekday, weekend, or holiday support may be required with advance notice.
