Catholic Priest (Contractor) – Space Base Delta 1

GD Resources LLC is seeking a Roman Catholic Priest to provide non-personal religious services to the Catholic community at Space Base Delta 1 (SBD 1). The Priest will deliver sacramental ministry, pastoral care, counseling, and liturgical services in accordance with the requirements of the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS), the Department of Defense, and Air Force Chaplain Corps directives.

This role supports the spiritual needs of Catholic Air Force and Space Force members and their families and includes planning, coordinating, and leading all Catholic programs and services as outlined in the Annual Ministry Plan.
Location: Peterson Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO (Primary)
Additional Support Locations: Schriever SFB & Cheyenne Mountain SFS

Key Responsibilities

Liturgical & Sacramental Duties

• Conduct two weekly Masses, including Sunday Mass and weekday Masses.

• Provide all sacraments: Reconciliation, Baptism, Weddings, Funerals, Annulments, Last Rites, etc.

• Lead Holy Day and special services: Ash Wednesday, Lent, Holy Triduum, Advent, Christmas, Penance Services.

• Arrive one hour before services for reconciliation and preparation.

Pastoral Care & Counseling

• Provide pastoral counseling, including pre-marital counseling.

• Respond to all emergencies requiring Catholic support within one hour, including last rites.

• Provide pastoral support within 24 hours of death notifications.

• Maintain privileged communication in accordance with Military Rule of Evidence 503.

Program Leadership & Coordination

• Work with the Catholic Parish Advisory Council (CPAC) and chapel staff to plan and manage all Catholic programs.

• Oversee Religious Education programs, including:

  • Sacramental preparation

  • Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)

  • Youth and children’s programs

  • Spiritual enrichment retreats

• Recruit and guide volunteers, coordinate with other contractors and chapel staff.

• Chair quarterly CPAC meetings and ensure meeting minutes are documented.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Submit monthly ministry data in AFCCARS.

• Maintain sacramental records and pre-marital documentation per AMS requirements.

• Coordinate financial and resource requirements with chapel staff for APF and CTOF purchases.

• Maintain office hours at the chapel and attend weekly staff meetings.

• Ensure compliance with all DoD, AF, AMS, and local chapel policies.

Community & Interagency Engagement

• Serve as liaison with:

  • AMS

  • Local diocese clergy

  • On-base chaplains

  • Unit leadership (for ministry-related matters)

• Support invocations/benedictions when a Catholic priest is specifically requested.

Required Qualifications

• Ordained Roman Catholic Priest in good standing with his home diocese and endorsed by the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) (DD 2088 required).

• Bachelor's degree (minimum 120 semester hours) and a graduate degree (minimum 72 hours) in theology or related field per DoDI 1304.28.

• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently; other languages permitted in pastoral care only.

• Ability to meet all background investigation requirements (Tier 1 / CNACI, fingerprints, IRC, etc.).

• Experience working in diverse, pluralistic environments.

• Strong administrative, organizational, and communication skills.

Additional Requirements

• Must provide two-week notice for planned absences and supply a qualified substitute (with approved credentials).

• Must maintain professional appearance and conduct.

• Must complete required training: privileged communication, Family Advocacy Program, SAPR, Information Assurance, etc.

• Must comply with base access requirements and maintain awareness of chapel policies and procedures.

Work Environment & Government Support

• Office space, computer access (after required training), chapel facilities, liturgical items, and basic supplies will be provided.

• Contractor must safeguard all government equipment and follow all usage policies.

• Training required for network access will be provided at no cost.
