Job Purpose

We are seeking a qualified Network Installation Technician to support the installation of RFID systems in government facilities. This role is responsible for installing RFID equipment above doorways, mounting and connecting RFID antennas, routing and terminating coaxial cabling, coordinating dedicated electrical power installation with subcontracted electricians, and completing required installation documentation. The ideal candidate will have strong experience installing wireless, RF, RFID, low-voltage, or structured cabling systems in secure government environments. A BICSI certification and an active or previously held Secret clearance are strongly preferred.

 

Essential Functions of the Job

RFID System Installation

  • Install RFID reader equipment above designated doorways in accordance with project drawings, manufacturer requirements, and site conditions.
  • Properly mount and secure RFID equipment to the wall or structure above each doorway using approved mounting hardware and installation methods.
  • Install RFID antennas on both sides of the doorway as required by the system design.
  • Route, dress, secure, terminate, and connect coaxial cable from the RFID equipment to each RFID antenna.
  • Ensure all equipment, antennas, cable, connectors, and mounting hardware are installed in a professional, workmanlike manner.

Cabling and Standards Compliance

  • Install coaxial cabling in compliance with applicable BICSI, TIA, IEC, IEEE, manufacturer, customer, and site-specific standards.
  • Perform required cable testing, verification, labeling, and documentation.
  • Inspect cable pathways, penetrations, bend radius, strain relief, grounding/bonding requirements, and physical protection of installed cabling.
  • Troubleshoot cable, connector, antenna, and RFID system installation issues.
  • Ensure final cabling installation supports reliable RFID system performance and meets project quality requirements.

Electrical Coordination

  • Coordinate with an electrical subcontractor for installation of dedicated electrical power for each RFID system.
  • Oversee scheduling and site coordination for the electrician’s work.
  • Confirm that the electrician installs a dedicated power line from the nearest approved circuit panel to the RFID equipment location.
  • Verify that electrical installation work is completed by properly qualified personnel and in accordance with applicable electrical codes, including NEC/NFPA 70, local requirements, facility requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Coordinate power availability, panel access, shutdown requirements, inspections, and completion status with the customer and project team.

Project Coordination and Customer Interface

  • Manage individual installation schedules and ensure assigned installations are completed on time.
  • Coordinate directly with the customer or site representative for facility access, badging, escorts, work windows, security requirements, and installation approvals.
  • Acquire, stage, track, and manage required project materials, including RFID equipment, coax cable, connectors, antennas, mounting hardware, labels, and consumables.
  • Communicate project status, risks, delays, access issues, material shortages, and field conditions to the project manager or designated company representative.
  • Maintain a professional presence while working in government facilities and comply with all site security and conduct requirements.
  • Documentation and Closeout

  • Complete accurate as-built documentation for each RFID system installation.
  • Document equipment locations, antenna locations, cable routes, cable labels, termination points, power source information, and deviations from original design.
  • Provide required installation photos, test results, inspection records, redlines, material records, and customer-defined deliverables.
  • Support punch-list resolution and final customer acceptance.
Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of experience installing wireless, RF, RFID, low-voltage, structured cabling, telecommunications, or network infrastructure systems.
  • Experience installing systems in government, military, federal, secure, or controlled-access facilities.
  • Working knowledge of coaxial cable installation, connector termination, cable routing, labeling, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret installation drawings, floor plans, cable schedules, equipment layouts, and technical specifications.
  • Familiarity with applicable installation standards and best practices, including BICSI, TIA, IEC, IEEE, and manufacturer installation requirements.
  • Ability to coordinate work with customers, subcontractors, electricians, project managers, and other field personnel.
  • Ability to manage daily work independently, prioritize tasks, and complete assigned installations with limited supervision.
  • Strong documentation skills, including as-built records, test reports, installation photos, and customer deliverables.
  • Ability to work in secure facilities and comply with government security, safety, and access-control procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to assigned customer sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BICSI Technician, BICSI Installer, or equivalent certification.
  • Active Secret security clearance strongly preferred.
  • Experience with RFID systems, access control systems, wireless antenna systems, RF cabling, or similar technologies.
  • Experience testing coaxial cable using appropriate RF, continuity, sweep, TDR, or certification test equipment.
  • Familiarity with government facility installation requirements, escort procedures, badging, and controlled work areas.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Experience coordinating electrical subcontractors or working alongside licensed electricians.
  • Knowledge of grounding, bonding, pathway installation, wall penetrations, firestopping, and cable protection requirements.

Working Conditions

This position primarily supports installations inside government facilities. Work may occur in secure areas and may require coordination with escorts, facility security officers, customer representatives, electricians, and other trades. The technician must follow all site safety, security, access, and documentation requirements.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work above doorways using ladders, lifts, or other approved access equipment.

• Ability to lift and carry tools, cable, equipment, antennas, and installation materials.

• Ability to bend, kneel, climb, reach overhead, and work in mechanical, electrical, communications, or secured facility spaces.

• Ability to work during customer-approved maintenance windows, including occasional off-hours or restricted-access schedules.
