Evening and overnight armed security requires someone who can stay alert, work independently, remain calm under pressure, and make responsible decisions when supervision may not be immediately present.

GCI Security is hiring Armed Security Officers for 2nd and 3rd shift assignments throughout the St. Louis area.

Our armed officers protect residential communities, businesses, offices, retail properties, and other client locations by maintaining a visible presence, conducting patrols, monitoring activity, documenting incidents, and responding professionally when something happens.

You will carry a firearm as part of your duties, but your primary responsibility is prevention. We are looking for experienced officers who understand de-escalation, know how to communicate with people under stress, and recognize that carrying a firearm brings greater responsibility, not greater authority.

If you can stay focused during quiet periods, make good decisions without constant supervision, and remain professional when a situation becomes tense, you may be a strong fit.

Officers start at $21.00/hour with paid training, with a defined opportunity to earn more through reliability and performance.

Pay progression:

• Starting Rate: $21.00/hour
• 30-Day Reliability Review: Potential increase to $21.50/hour
• Successful 90-Day Probation: Increase to $22.00/hour
• One Year in Good Standing: Potential increase to $22.50 /hour based on performance

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain a professional and visible armed security presence throughout your assigned shift.
• Conduct scheduled foot and/or vehicle patrols.
• Monitor entrances, parking areas, buildings, grounds, and other assigned areas.
• Watch for suspicious activity, unauthorized access, safety concerns, property damage, and unusual conditions.
• Remain alert and attentive during slower evening and overnight periods.
• Use communication and de-escalation whenever possible to resolve situations safely and professionally.
• Exercise sound judgment and restraint when responding to confrontational or potentially dangerous situations.
• Maintain safe control of your firearm and duty equipment at all times.
• Respond calmly and professionally to incidents, alarms, disturbances, and client concerns.
• Write accurate incident reports and daily activity reports.
• Use GCI's reporting systems to document patrols and security activity.
• Communicate with dispatch and supervisors throughout the shift as required.
• Interact professionally with residents, employees, customers, visitors, and law enforcement.
• Enforce site policies respectfully and consistently.
• Arrive on time, in proper uniform, properly equipped, and prepared for every scheduled shift.
• Follow post orders and complete all assigned duties before the end of your shift.

What You Need to Succeed

Evening and overnight armed officers need to be especially dependable, experienced, and comfortable making responsible decisions while working independently.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current and valid St. Louis County Armed Security License required.
• An unarmed security license does not meet this requirement.
• An Armed Courier License does not meet this requirement. Applicants must hold an Armed Security License.
• Minimum of two years of armed experience in security, military service, or law enforcement.
• Must provide your own firearm and required duty gear.
• Firearm and caliber must be approved by the St. Louis County Private Security Section.
• Reliable transportation to and from assigned job sites.
• Ability to pass required criminal background and drug screening.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Ability to remain awake, alert, and attentive throughout evening or overnight shifts.
• Ability to communicate clearly in person and in writing.
• Ability to use sound judgment and remain calm during stressful or confrontational situations.
• Ability to work responsibly with limited direct supervision.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and perform patrol duties associated with the assigned post.

Please note: Applicants must already possess the required St. Louis County Armed Security License. GCI does not pay initial licensing costs for newly hired officers. Armed Courier licenses are not accepted in place of an Armed Security License.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous evening or overnight armed security experience.
• Experience working armed security in residential, retail, commercial, office, or industrial environments.
• Military or law enforcement experience.
• Experience handling confrontational situations professionally.
• Strong de-escalation and communication skills.
• Customer service experience.
• Strong written reporting skills.
• Experience working independently.
• A strong record of attendance and punctuality.
• Interest in future leadership or operations opportunities.
