Job Purpose

GC Therapeutics is seeking a highly motivated Machine Learning Researcher to join our computational biology team. In this role, you'll design, train, and benchmark virtual cell models that drive GC Therapeutics’ in silico discovery platform. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in building and training deep learning models on complex multimodal datasets. This is a hands-on, individual-contributor role, working closely with senior scientists and experimental biologists to translate model predictions into real therapeutic hypotheses. This is a full-time role, working on-site Monday through Friday.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Design and train deep learning architectures for modeling perturbation response and cellular state from multimodal training data.

• Build and maintain benchmarking pipelines to evaluate model performance and generalization.

• Process and integrate large-scale multimodal biological datasets (single-cell RNA-sequencing, perturbation, single-cell ATAC-seq, imaging) into training-ready pipelines.

• Collaborate with experimental biologists to define modeling tasks and validate predictions against wet-lab data.

General Scientific Roles

• Maintain coding best standards for documentation and reproducibility, summarize results, and create presentations for internal group meetings.

• Exemplify scientific curiosity and deep expertise with relevant literature and cutting-edge technologies to advance research directions.

• Work with other members of the research team and within GCTx to accomplish company goals.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

• MS 2-3 years of experience or PhD in computer science, machine learning, computational biology, or related field.

• Deep understanding of machine learning and deep learning approaches and their application to real world problems. Proven expertise in developing, implementing, and training state-of-the-art deep learning models (autoregressive models, transformers, LLMs, VAEs, or related architectures).

• Strong experience processing and analyzing large-scale multimodal datasets.

• Proficiency with Python (Numpy, Scipy, Pandas, sklearn) and modern deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, JAX).

• Experience with large-scale model training on GPUs and distributed systems.

• Strong work ethic with the ability to perform tasks independently.

• Proficient in analysis, presentation, and documentation of scientific data and scientific reports.

• Effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.

• Strong project management and organizational skills and ability to prioritize and multitask.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with genomics (single-cell RNA-seq, single-cell ATAC-seq) or imaging datasets.

• Experience with cross-domain representation learning or other multimodal learning approaches.

• Track record of applying deep learning frameworks to scientific questions, as shown by publications in high impact journals or machine learning conferences.

Pay Range: $150,000 - $210,000

(This range reflects the base salary only and does not include additional compensation such as annual bonus and equity awards, which are part of the total compensation package.)

Disclosure Statement: The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
