Position Overview

The Production Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing all production operations to ensure products are manufactured safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in compliance with company quality standards and food safety requirements. This role provides leadership to production personnel, develops and implements production plans, drives continuous improvement initiatives, and promotes a culture of safety, accountability, and operational excellence.

The Production Manager is expected to lead by example and provide hands-on support to production operations whenever necessary to ensure production goals, quality standards, and customer commitments are achieved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain production schedules to meet customer demands and operational goals.
  • Adjust production schedules in response to changes in demand, staffing, equipment issues, or other operational requirements.
  • Direct and supervise production employees, including hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented work environment.
  • Ensure employees comply with company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), food safety programs, and safety requirements.
  • Monitor daily production performance and implement corrective actions when production goals are not being met.
  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, increase efficiency, reduce waste, and lower operating costs.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean Manufacturing and other process improvement methodologies.
  • Ensure all products meet established quality standards, customer specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance to maintain compliance with food safety programs, including HACCP, SQF, GMPs, and sanitation requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and all company health and safety policies.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections, identify hazards, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Monitor labor, material usage, and production costs while implementing cost-saving initiatives.
  • Prepare and present production reports, performance metrics, labor utilization, and operational updates to senior management.
  • Analyze production data and key performance indicators (KPIs) to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and make mechanical adjustments or minor repairs to production equipment as needed. Coordinate with Maintenance on major repairs.
  • Monitor inventory levels of raw materials and production supplies and communicate shortages proactively.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Warehouse, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, and other departments to ensure efficient operations.
  • Provide direct support to production personnel by assisting with production activities, equipment operation, troubleshooting, and staffing needs whenever required to maintain operational efficiency.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Proven experience as a Production Manager or similar leadership role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of production planning, manufacturing operations, and quality control principles.
  • Working knowledge of food manufacturing regulations and food safety systems is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and team management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with inventory management systems and production reporting.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot production equipment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and production management software.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and implement process improvements.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of equivalent manufacturing leadership experience.
  • Previous food manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience required.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, HACCP, GMPs, and SQF is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and follow production schedules, batch records, and work orders.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and climb stairs throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds when necessary.
  • Ability to work for extended periods while standing on the production floor.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination sufficient to inspect products and operate equipment.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, moving equipment, noise, temperature variations, cleaning chemicals, and food ingredients.
  • Occasional evening, weekend, or extended work hours may be required to meet production schedules and business demands.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $65,000.00 per year
