SUMMARY
Performs prompt and thorough cleaning of patient rooms and provides environmental services support across various departments. Maintains cleanliness in all areas—including discharges, patient rooms, routine cycle cleaning, offices, and ancillary spaces—to support efficient patient care and seamless daily operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Facility Cleanliness
CRITERIA:
- Perform daily floor maintenance (sweeping, vacuuming, extracting, mopping, scrubbing, buffing, and waxing) to prevent slips, falls, and contamination.
- Operate and maintain floor-cleaning equipment (buffers, scrubbers, vacuums) to ensure hospital floors remain safe and sanitized.
- Wash walls, ceiling, and woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills etc.
- Spot clean walls, windows, high and low dusting, doors, stainless steel, etc.
- Dusts furniture and equipment.
- Disinfects and sterilizes equipment
- Ensure lobby areas, hallways, waiting rooms, staircases, elevators and common areas are welcoming and visually clean for visitors and staff.
- Respond promptly to spills, blood borne pathogens, and hazardous material cleanups.
- Supports the Environmental Services Aide I position with discharge and cycle cleanings and patient room disinfection procedures as needed.
- Supports the Environmental Services Aide I position with cleaning of ancillary areas such as, offices, restrooms, nurses station, shower rooms etc. as needed.
- Restocks supplies.
2. Infection Prevention and Control
CRITERIA:
- Follow strict infection control protocols to prevent the spread of bacteria, viruses, and hospital-acquired infections (HAIs).
- Disinfect and sanitize patient rooms, restrooms, and high-touch surfaces (e.g., door handles, bed rails, and call buttons).
- Use hospital-approved disinfectants and proper cleaning techniques to eliminate harmful microorganisms.
- Properly handle soiled linens, biohazardous waste, and bodily fluids to prevent contamination.
- Adhere to hand hygiene and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols for personal and patient safety.
3. Waste Management and Environmental Sustainability
CRITERIA:
- Properly dispose of bulk general waste, biohazardous materials, pharmaceutical waste, and sharps (needles, scalpels, etc.) following OSHA, EPA, and hospital regulations.
- Ensure waste bins are securely closed, labeled correctly, and emptied regularly to minimize hazards.
- Promote eco-friendly waste management by participating in hospital recycling and sustainability initiatives.
- Monitor and report any waste handling issues or environmental risks to team leader or supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, or general education degree (GED) and one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
If required to operate hospital vehicles, valid driver’s license required.
