What are the responsibilities and job description for the School Bus Driver position at GATEWAY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT?
GATEWAY USD is seeking a reliable and safety-focused School Bus Driver to transport students to and from school and related activities in accordance with California state laws and district policies. The ideal candidate is patient, responsible, and committed to maintaining a safe and positive environment for all passengers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate a school bus along assigned routes and schedules
- Pick up and drop off students at designated stops
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers at all times
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
- Maintain order and discipline on the bus in a respectful manner
- Follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and district procedures
- Report any accidents, incidents, or mechanical issues promptly
- Assist students with special needs as required
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance and route logs
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid California Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements
- Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate
- California Special Driver Certificate (School Bus Certificate)
- Clean driving record
- Ability to pass background check, drug screening, and physical exam
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience driving a school bus or commercial vehicle
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of California traffic laws and school transportation regulations
- Ability to manage student behavior calmly and effectively
- Strong attention to safety and detail
- Ability to work independently and follow established routes
Working Conditions:
- Early morning and afternoon shifts; occasional evenings for special events
- Exposure to varying weather conditions
- Prolonged periods of sitting and operating a vehicle
