About Us
Gateway to the Great Outdoors (GGO) is a nonprofit organization providing hands-on STEAM, environmental, and outdoor education to Title I schools in St. Louis and Chicago. GGO partners with local universities to recruit and train college student mentors who lead weekly classroom lessons and monthly field trips. Each year concludes with a camping trip that brings together the skills and experiences students have gained. Our programs are designed to improve academic outcomes, increase access to outdoor education, and provide students with consistent mentorship opportunities.
Position Overview
The Program Manager, St. Louis will coordinate and oversee all program delivery with St. Louis partners. This role includes mentor recruitment and engagement, scheduling and logistics for classrooms and field trips, and maintaining communication with teachers and principals. The Program Manager will also provide occasional support for outreach and fundraising activities.
Duties
- Recruit, train, and support college student mentors to lead classroom and field programming.
- Manage scheduling and logistics for all St. Louis classroom lessons, field trips, and the end-of-year camping trip.
- Serve as the main point of contact for SLPS teachers and principals.
- Collaborate with GGO leadership to maintain program quality and consistency.
- Provide support for outreach, community events, and fundraising as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental science, natural sciences, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Experience working in education, youth programming, or community engagement.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage logistics while building strong relationships with mentors and school partners.
- Commitment to advancing equity and access in education and outdoor learning.
Compensation
- Salary range: $40,000 – $50,000, commensurate with experience.
