Gateway School District is looking for Substitute Custodians! These are flexible positions, where you'll be contacted in the event that a GSD Custodian is absent and needs coverage.
Job Goal
Perform general cleaning and housekeeping duties in school facilities, and maintain the appearance, cleanliness, and safe environment of all assigned and/or scheduled areas as determined by the Facilities & Maintenance Supervisor. These areas may include, but are not limited to: classrooms, hallways, stairwells, cafeterias, auditoriums, kitchens, school grounds, and other rooms and/or areas as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED

Job Duties
- Clean all assigned areas of responsibility, such as teaching spaces, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, etc.
- Sweep the floors; dust and wax furniture; empty waste cans; clean chalkboards/white boards
- Set up for building activities, meetings, and performances
- Replenish all restroom supplies
- Dispose of garbage
- Assist in IPM controls
- Assist cafeteria workers when schedule dictates
- Assist with snow removal as needed
- Secure building doors, windows, and gates to ensure safety and security
- Clean and disinfect restroom facilities
- Clean faculty rooms
- Dust & clean assigned stairwells
- Operate District vehicles according to District policy & procedures
- Operate District equipment according to District policy & procedures
- Perform emergency clean-up duties as needed
- Report all physical damage and vandalism of the building & grounds immediately to a supervisor
- Maintain building grounds
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Building Principal

- Computer Skills: Demonstrate the ability to use IMB-based or MAC-based personal computers and programs used, such as Windows, Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, and databases, if needed
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with multiple problems
- Other Skills & Abilities: Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community. Patience in dealing with staff and students. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Dress Code
Due to the nature of custodial operations, which include possible scrapes and cuts as well as chemical and solid particulate exposure, it is recommended that clothing worn protects arms, legs, and feet as much as possible. During inclement weather, please dress appropriately to work in the cold environment.
