Counselor Technician

Gateway Rehab has an immediate need for a Counselor Technician to work at our Center Township location.  Our Counselor Technician is responsible for the coordination and execution of the residential REST for Men program.  This position receives frequent supervision and instruction.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinates and executes treatment schedule.
• Facilitates discussion groups and activities, including recreation. 
• Provides milieu management and assists patients in following the daily schedule. 
• Conducts searches of persons and property, including searching all patient belongings when they are admitted to the program and searching patient rooms on a regular basis.
• Completes appropriate paperwork based on items checked in and/or contraband found. 
• Completes urine screens on patients upon admission, at random intervals, and upon return to the facility as needed. 
• Monitors patient medication line. 
• Monitors patient mealtimes. 
• Conducts applicable forms related to program orientation, handbook overview, and patient welcome checklist. 
• Conducts daily shift accountability and room checks. 
• Assists in guiding patients with their ADLs and living in a community setting. 
• Monitors family programming visitation with adults and children. 
• Documents patient treatment agreement with support from therapy team in the patient chart. 
• Assists patients in completion of patient treatment assignments. 
• Assists and monitors with phone calls to family members/friends and referral sources. 
• Provide crisis intervention and engage with treatment team to establish appropriate therapeutic interventions. 
• Monitors and addresses behavioral health concerns.
• Communicates information to the treatment team via appropriate channels.
• Transports patients to meetings, appointments, emergency room, court, and other treatment related activities as scheduled. 
• Assists in integrating patients into the community by helping them make connections at outside 12-step meetings, with appropriate community supports, etc. 
• Documents appropriately and in a timely manner in the electronic health record.
• Attends daily shift change to ensure program scheduling and continuity of care for all patients. 
• Facilitates proper discharge procedures. 
• Acts as lead tech on a rotation, ensuring all assigned tech duties are completed each day.
• Retrieves, hands out, and monitors mail to patients.
• Other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Basic Qualifications:  

• High school diploma or GED
• Chemical dependency treatment experience preferred.

Other Requirements/Information:

• PA Criminal History Record check, Childline, and FBI clearances required, and TB test
• Valid driver's license and favorable driving record required.
• Able to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification 
• Pass Drug Screen
• TB Test 

Work Conditions: 

• Favorable working conditions.
• Required to remain awake and alert while on duty.
• Minimal physical demand.
• Moderate mental demands to respond to patients' simultaneous requests.
