POSITION: DIRECTOR OF NURSING

OBJECTIVES
A currently competent Registered Nurse who, in consultation with the Sr. Director of Acute Services and Chief Medical Officer performs a variety of supervisory and professional nursing duties. The employee in this position is directly responsible for, and competent to provide, overall nursing management of the Detoxification Unit/Adult Addictions Receiving Facilities, Residential facility, and adolescent residential departments.
The Director of Nursing supervises nursing support staff, administrates the resources of the Duval Detoxification/ARF’s, develops staffing, performs staff orientation and education, collaborates with medical staff and other team members, interfaces with external agencies, oversees development and implementation of Quality Improvement and Infection Control Plan, and demonstrates communication skills, nursing assessment skills, diagnosis, care planning and treatment skills and nursing support staff including delegating, scheduling and coordinating care to ensure the best possible client outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Ensure quality internal and external customer care and service.
2. Maintain working relationships with the Staff Medical Director & other assigned medical staff and Pharmacist.
3. Develop the budget for all grant project-related activities and expenditures.
4. Write and prepare final grant application.
5. Ensure adherence to all guidelines and deadlines.
6. Identify agencies and community organizations relevant to grant project.

1. Must be eligible through DCF and AHCA with Level II Background checks throughout employment.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/ CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
- Associate of Science in Nursing degree. Preferred training includes background in Chemical Dependency Nursing.
- Current Florida licensure as Registered Nurse. Current CPR/First Aid certificate.
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record to meet standards for the organization’s insurance requirements.
SKILLS
- A minimum of four years of chemical dependency nursing experience, with competency in the effects and manifestations of substance abuse on adults and adolescents, and a minimum of three years of nursing supervisory experience.
- Must demonstrate competence in administrative and supervisory skills in dealing with subordinate personnel and skilled in communication and ability to engage diverse populations from clients and client families, through and including, all levels of center personnel.
- Ability to recognize and respond to emergencies and life-threatening situations in an appropriate manner.
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment.
- Strong customer service and organizational skills.
- Ability to relate to adolescents, adults, families, referral sources, and internal Gateway Team Members.
- Must be able to perform assigned work independently with minimal supervision
- Instruct in a variety of educational settings including individuals and groups.
- Assess, plan, implement, and document educational activities.
- Working knowledge and ability to apply state curriculum guidelines.
- Ability to teach a variety of subject areas.
KNOWLEDGE
- Must be knowledgeable and demonstrate competency in current principles and practices related to nursing care of chemically dependent adults who may have a mental health diagnosis, as well as adolescents who may be chemically affected, have mental health disorders and be involved with the Juvenile Justice system.
