Job Summary
GateWay Community College is seeking applicants for an Economics Adjunct Faculty position to teach courses in Economics (ECN211, ECN212) in various modalities (in-person, online, and virtual) to diverse student populations.
The ideal candidate will have a combination of education and experience to fulfill this critical teaching role. They will also ensure students are prepared to fulfill the needs of local employers. We are looking for an adjunct faculty member with a track record of commitment to service excellence, innovation, assessment, student success, and integrity in the performance of job duties.
Essential Functions
- Teach a diverse population of students in a classroom, online or hybrid, accelerated, and/or other alternative schedules and formats; uses active learning strategies to engage students and promote student learning, retention, and achievement; incorporates instructional technology and employs alternative delivery or scheduling techniques where appropriate
- Develop instructional materials, learning activities, and curriculum; creates and implements syllabi, course outlines, lecture and lab materials, as well as applied learning activities for assigned courses for students learning computer information systems and related courses; grades student work and activities; effectively utilizes course management software such as Canvas; utilizes college and departmental assessment tools; participates in continuous evaluation and improvement of teaching and learning
- Advise, tutor and offer assistance to students related to the subject matter, as needed
Minimum Qualifications
For academic disciplines, a graduate degree is required. A faculty may qualify with any of the following:
- Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field OR
- Master’s degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching field
Desired Qualifications
A. Master’s or doctorate level degree in Economics granted by an accredited college or
university. Master’s degree or higher in any field with a combination of 18 upper division and/or
graduate credits in the teaching field.
B. Bachelor’s and/Master’s degree in Economics.
C. At least five (1) years of teaching experience in various modalities at a community college or
university in Economics. Experience should include course development with engaging
interactive activities
D. Active member on community advisory boards or current membership(s) in professional associations
tied to area of instruction.
E. Professional certifications e.g., a CPA document, a PMP certification, SHRM, Society of Human
Resources certificate. This is not an all-inclusive list of certifications. OR Industry recognized subject
matter expert in area to be taught as documented through a portfolio, e.g. marketing campaigns, past
audits, projects managed, TQM projects, published works in the field, or letters from clients who
received professional services.
Special Working Conditions
- Will be required to travel or be assigned to all MCCCD locations
- May require numerous evenings or weekends
- May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
- May be required to lift or carry up to #25 lbs
- MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
