Art Aide Instructor

Gatesville High School

Primary Purpose:

Work under general supervision to provide students with appropriate visual arts learning activities and experiences designed to help students fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

• High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
• Have met formal academic assessment, associate’s degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning*
• Valid Texas educational aide certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Knowledge of basic visual arts skills and techniques
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Experience:

• Related work experience preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Support

• Provide instruction in a variety of visual arts programs and activities.
• Facilitate and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans for drawing, painting, and art history.
• Use motivational instructional strategies to enhance student learning.
• Maintain art classroom in a neat and orderly manner including bulletin boards and displays.

Student Management

• Manage student behavior in the classroom.
• Help supervise students during arrival, lunch and dismissal from school.
• Must be flexible and able to handle various tasks as needed.

Other

• Assist with intervention groups and clerical duties as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality.
• Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and special events as needed.
• Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

None

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

• Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
• Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
• Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
• Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
• Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours
• Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
