JOB SUMMARY:
Diesel Mechanic – A is responsible for performing high-level diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a wide range of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment to ensure optimal safety, performance, and regulatory compliance. This role requires a proactive approach to preventive maintenance, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding safety and operational standards.
Work schedules will be discussed when hired. The lives of others depend on the quality of the work that is done on equipment. All repairs need to be checked by a supervisor once completed and before it leaves, the shop. The careful vigilance and knowledge of what the equipment carries (Hazardous Materials), should be at the front of everyone’s mind. GATE Fuel Service expects that the quality of your skills is the best that you can give. In return, Gate hopes that you find reward in the work that you provide. Uniforms will be provided by a service that also provides laundering once a week. Hard-toed footwear is required for your safety.

REQUIREMENTS
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
- High School diploma or continued studies
- Must have a valid CDL driver’s license, clean driving record and dependable transportation
- Must have the ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language at a level sufficient
- Activities: Sitting 10% Walking/Standing 50% Bending/Stretching/Reaching 40%
- Lifting: Occasionally required to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Pushing/Turning/Kneeling/Twisting/Climbing
- Vision: As required by DOT
- Mental Demands: Problem solves and makes decisions.
- Environment: Exposure to inside and outside elements such as wind, rain etc.
- All tasks demand agility, the ability to maintain a crouching position to inspect and work on the underside of the vehicle, frequent entering and exiting of the cab, and the ability to climb ladders on the trailer(s).
- Must be able to push the clutch pedal and brake repetitively throughout their shift.
- Forklift training (will be issued if not already certified).
- Two to three years of experience around diesel mechanics and shop
- Knowledge of correct and safe usage of electric and air tools
- Be self-motivated but work within the team.
- Effective communication skills – handwritten and verbal.
- Some Computer skills are helpful.
- Able to be given a task and complete in a timely manner.
- Brake Certification, A/C Certification or other educational certificates required.
- Knowledge of Tools and toolboxes
- Arrive to work on time, consistently
- Upon entering the property, arrive in proper uniform, crisp, clean and in good repair. Ensure team is in proper uniform as well
- Hair must be clean and cut in a becoming style; management has final approval
- Attend all required training, safety courses, office and departmental meetings
- Report any safety hazards, follow up that hazard has been corrected, and assist with providing a safe work environment
- Keep company equipment available by completing PMs procedures on time.
- Maintain vehicle records by data entry of service and repairs.
- Use shop equipment and keep operational by following manufactures’ instructions.
- Containing cost by using warranty, evaluation service and part options
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
- Keep all certification up to date.
- Sweep and clean work areas.
- Report status of projects to Supervisor to keep progress moving forward.
- Correct vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, etc.
- Update all DVIR’s every day on each repaired vehicle.
- Observe all the necessary inventory on hand and report to the supervisor to order.
- Make sure all vehicles comply with Federal, State and Gate Standards.
- Perform any additional tasks requested or assigned by Shop Supervisor.
