What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinic Nurse - CNA or CMA position at Gastroenterology Specialties?

We are a busy Gastroenterology office with 33 Providers. We are looking for a team-oriented individual to provide great customer service to our patients! This individual should show great attention to detail and a passion for healthcare. 

We are currently expanding our Practice by adding additional providers and several more procedure rooms! We are looking to bring on additional team members to help accommodate for the increased number of patients we will be seeing!


JOB TITLE: Clinic Nurse (CNA or CMA)

 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Prepares clinic patients for examination and treatment. Assists with the gathering of patient records. Maintains exam rooms. Works collaboratively with providers, physicians’ teams nurses, and clinic nurse team to provide exceptional patient care.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Greets patients in a pleasant and caring manner, and escorts patient to exam room. Prepares patients for examination and treatment. Takes patient history, medication information, and vital signs.  
  2. Documents the patient’s stated medical problems.
  3. Responsible for entering the provider’s orders into the patient’s medical record as directed. 
  4. Assists with monitoring patient flow through the clinic.
  5. Assists providers with patients and other duties as needed. 
  6. Prepares and cleans examination rooms. Stocks supplies.
  7. Maintains medication/supplies and orders as needed.
  8. Maintains an organized sample room which is well supplied with medications that are not expired. 
  9. Completes pre-procedure checklists and procedure preparation questions for the Lincoln Endoscopy Center, L.L.C., as necessary. 
  10. Maintains patient confidentiality.
  11. Demonstrates good communication and interaction skills when dealing with supervisors, co-workers, patients, families, and other departments.
  12. Follows appropriate infection control policies and procedures of facility and regulatory agencies.
  13. Maintains knowledge of and adheres to established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
  14. Participates in organizational and departmental goals and performance improvement activities.
  15. Participates in personal and professional growth by attending in-services/educational workshops and scheduled departmental meetings.
  16. Organizes and prioritizes work to complete responsibilities according to plan within established time frames.
  17. Keeps regular and punctual attendance.
  18. Performs other tasks and special assignments as directed by the supervisor.


PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Knowledge of the principles and skills needed for nursing to provide patient care and treatment. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Ability to interpret and maintain accurate medical records and accurately record test results. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in assisting or administering a variety of treatment methods and medications as directed. Skills and abilities in developing and maintaining department quality assurance and control standards. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to read, understand, and respond to detailed oral and written instruction. Skill in operating a keyboard, photocopier, fax machine, and other technology typical of an office environment. Ability to communicate clearly. Skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships and communication with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Required ability to work in a caring and kind manner under high stress with patients who are irritable or confused.

 

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completion of an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant program or Certified Medical Assistant program.

 

EXPERIENCE: 

  1. Three (3) years’ experience in a medical clinic setting required. 
  2. One (1) year experience in the specialty of GI nursing preferred. 

 

CERTIFICATE/LICENSURE: A valid CNA license or CMA license. CPR certification. 

 

SCHEDULE: Full-time hours 36-40 hours/week. Monday - Thursday 7:30am - 4:30pm, Fridays 7:30am - 12:30pm. This position would have most Friday afternoons off!
