Snapshot of Daily Duties
- Collection and accession specimens daily.
- Enter data into laboratory information system for specimen analysis and staining information.
- Perform microbiology/histology procedures on specimens which includes embedding, processing, staining (routine H & E, special and IHC), and cover-slipping.
- Perform maintenance of equipment including changing solutions on tissue processor and auto-stainer.
- Perform quality control and record keeping for histology lab.
- Send and track all consults/second opinions/additional stains sent out to other labs.
- Perform chemical hazardous waste disposal according to current operating policies and procedures.
- File patient blocks and slides for storage.
- Perform various clerical function and label bottles, cassettes and slides as required.
- Receive and accession tissue specimens and prepare specimens for histo-technic processing.
- Maintain work area and all documentation mandated by state regulations.
The Must Haves
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Natural Science (only if tech certification is desired).
- CPR certification through AHA preferred.
- Familiarity using tissue processor, auto-stainer, IHC stainer, Biofire Torch, and embedding center required.
