Definition
The Student Intervention Coordinator (SIC) will work to support the process by which students develop soft skills, repair relationships, increase successful interactions, and build a stronger sense of community within the school. The SIC will work in an in-person environment to build and deepen a positive school climate and culture by supplying staff with various frameworks and work to increase social, behavioral, and academic skills through a safe culture of intervention and opportunity. This person will work as a team member with teachers, counselors, school social workers, and other appropriate personnel to establish positive student contacts that develop appropriate and positive behavior modifications enabling students to succeed. Assists instructional personnel by participating as a team member in the development and monitoring of restorative practices, comprehensive behavioral objectives, goals, and plans for student interventions.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ability to work one-on-one with students of trauma/behaviorally impacted students daily.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
- Maintain paperwork submission deadlines on a daily and monthly basis including monitoring Data Profiles(DP) for all students in the school.
- Assists in the identification, development, implementation, and evaluation of curricula for site-based restorative practices professional development.
- Monitors schoolwide processes and programming for utilizing current best practices in restorative practices, PBIS, and Wellness Education.
- Consults with the Principal and staff concerning behavioral expectations and needs of students
- Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of current goals.
- Acts as an advocate for students by providing one on one/group therapeutic conferencing sessions, assessment of students’ needs, individual behavior planning, personal goal setting, weekly follow-ups with students, and other school-based supports as needed.
- Assist with the day-to-day discipline, discuss student concerns with appropriate school staff and community agencies, assist with coordinating activities for parents and respond to requests for assistance and information.
- Respond to crisis and routine calls for assistance from staff and/or students; by diffusing and de-escalating potentially volatile situations, sometimes necessitating controlling aggressive behavior.
- Works with school administration to mediate restorative classroom leadership and restorative discipline.
- Organizes and provides support, guidance, and professional development to support SSC, PBIS, and Wellness Education.
- Collaborates with support staff on education workshops for parents and the community.
- Embeds equitable and culturally responsive practices into content and delivery of professional development.
- Supports teachers using the restorative practices models and implementing restorative practices in their classroom.
- Meets regularly with school implementation teams (e.g. the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports Team, Behavior Intervention Team, and Restorative Practices Team).
- Attends in-person meetings, training workshops, and educational conferences to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Assists administrators and other staff members in the orderly, expedient, and safe transition of students from one location to another.
- Required to have prompt, regular attendance and be available to work on-call in emergency situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned by an appropriate administrator or their representative.

- Strong knowledge and becomes an expert resource on restorative practices, PBIS, and Wellness Education research, evaluation, strategies, theories, techniques, and methods of instruction for the district.
- Understands and is trained in restorative practices processes and theory of action.

Physical Requirements
- Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing and the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- The work often requires bending, squatting, and reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light weights.
- The work requires activities involving driving automotive equipment.
- Will regularly require sufficient physical strength and ability to exert physical effort as needed for crisis intervention or handling objects over 30 pounds.
- May occasionally require work with risk for a potential job-related injury, such as physical confrontations.
Minimum Training and Experience
- Four-year Bachelor’s Degree in education, special education, criminal justice, counseling, psychology, or a related field.
- Recommended Master's Degree in Education, Leadership or three years of experience in a mental health or human service program preferably working with behaviorally complex children.
- A minimum of three years experience teaching, or curriculum development, and working with youth.

- Proficient use of PowerSchool

- Experience working with secondary level student
- Experience in the area of Behavior Intervention, Restorative Practices, and /or Wellness Education
