Definition
Work includes coordinating with school administration for the hiring of school bus drivers. Establishes bus driver contracts, and performs a variety of administrative and special functions for the transportation department including overseeing safety and training programs and accident investigations. Coordinates with state and local authorities to ensure conformity with state and federal standards. Assists in preparations of state reports. Coordinates beginning and end-of-year events for bus drivers and the Transportation department. Responsibilities also include attending safety meetings, completing field observations of drivers, and tracking statistical information related to responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities 
Administers DOT-required drug testing program. Works with staff and vendors to ensure testing is completed in compliance with DOT requirements. Ensures that post-accident testing is conducted.
Responsible for accident response, investigation, and tracking of all school/activity bus and transportation vehicle accidents/incidents. Tracks accidents and provides up-to-date statistical data regarding the accident program.
Works with NCDMV School Bus and Traffic Safety to ensure proper licensing for school bus/activity bus drivers. Coordinates certification/licensing process which includes working with the NCDMV to ensure classwork, road work, and the entire licensing/hiring process is effective and efficient. 
Tracks driver assignments and vacancies.
Administers school bus driver recruiting assistance to administrators in the GCS hiring process for school bus/activity bus drivers.
Ability and willingness to work varied schedules as needed, including weekends.
Coordinates school bus evacuation exercises.
Coordinates with school administrators and HR to establish bus driver contracts.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director and Transportation Manager.

Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job to include considerable knowledge of safe, efficient practices and procedures used in the operation of an NC school bus.
Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and standards for school buses.
Formulate, understand, and interpret written guidelines contained in work-related documents.
Possess skills and job knowledge to perform the essential functions of the job.
Extensive knowledge of NC school bus operations.
Perform multiple, complex, administrative, and training tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions.
Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
Formulate, understand, and interpret complex written documents including laws and policies contained in work-related documents.
Providing information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing defined but different processes, and operate equipment using standardized methods.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to use a variety of automated office equipment such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, etc. 
Must be able to exert a negligible amount of up to 30 pounds of force frequently or 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. 
Due to the amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.  
Requires the ability to talk and hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving the nature of sounds by ear). Must be able to communicate via the telephone.
Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments, and/or directions from administrators. 
Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using office equipment.
Requires the ability to handle a variety of office machines, etc. Must have minimal levels of eye-hand-foot coordination.

Minimum Education and Experience 
Graduation from high school.
Valid North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License with P and S endorsements.
Valid DOT Medical Card.

This Position Reports Directly to:  Transportation Manager 

Salary: Grade 66, Step 00 (Entry Level) 

Classification: Non-Exempt
