About the Role
Are you a strategic HR leader ready to make a measurable impact in local government? Gaston County is seeking an Assistant Human Resources Director to oversee our Total Rewards programs, including compensation, classification, and employee benefits.
In this key leadership role, you’ll manage HR staff, lead major compensation projects, partner with vendors, and align HR practices with organizational goals. You'll also act as a trusted advisor to leadership and may serve as HR Director in their absence.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and manage compensation, classification, and benefits programs.
- Supervise HR staff and participate in performance evaluations, policy development, and goal-setting.
- Oversee vendor contracts and RFP processes related to benefits and compensation.
- Conduct audits and classification reviews to ensure internal equity and regulatory compliance.
- Present data-driven HR strategies and reports to leadership.
- Coordinate EEO-4 reporting and ensure compliance with federal and state employment regulations.
- Represent the HR Director when needed and support cross-functional HR initiatives.
What We’re Looking For
✅ Bachelor's degree in HR Management or related field
✅ 7 years in HR with 5 years of leadership experience
✅ Strong understanding of Total Rewards, classification systems, and HR compliance
✅ Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills
✅ Valid driver’s license
Preferred:
- Local government experience
- SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification
