Substitute Teacher

Gaston Christian School is seeking passionate, Christ-centered substitute teachers. Who desires not only to engage students academically but also to invest in their spiritual and moral formation.

Position Overview

As a substitute teacher at GCS, you will help deliver instruction that engages students, encourages critical thinking, and integrates a Biblical worldview into every aspect of learning. You will work on an as-needed basis and be responsible for implementing instructions left by the regular classroom teacher in their absence.

Requirements

• Prior experience working with children or in a classroom setting is preferred.
• Ability to follow instructions and maintain consistent classroom routines.
• Flexibility to work in different grade levels and subject areas.
• May be called on short notice depending on school needs.
• Affirm that he/she is passionate about the intellectual and moral formation of students and Christian Education as a professional, understands that teaching at GCS is a Christian ministry position, and believes that this profession and their role as a teacher are a good use of time and talent to honor the Lord Jesus Christ.
  
  

Key Responsibilities

• Follow the lesson plans and learning objectives left by the regular teacher
• Abide by the staff appearance code that reflects a professional appearance worthy of the high calling of service to our Lord.
• Be informed and aware of each student’s academic, spiritual, and social development.
• Ensure that you are informed that adequate preparations have been made to accomplish the objectives for each class.
• Maintain adequate records of attendance and grades to meet administrative requirements and to enable teachers to have personal knowledge of students’ progress.
• Attend and participate in scheduled departmental meetings and general faculty meetings when requested.
• Integrate Biblical principles throughout the instructional program.
• Maintain proper discipline in the classroom to create a positive teaching environment.
• Keep proper discipline on the school’s premises so that GCS is known as a school that respects others.
• Maintain open and helpful communication
• Supervise students at all times, never leaving them unattended
• Strive to hold students to the standard of helping them reach their God-given potential.
• Demonstrate commitment as a team player, positive interpersonal relationships with parents, students, and peers.
• Encourage critical thinking skills through questioning strategies.
• Assist with carline at dismissal or other duties when needed.
• Adhere to the guidelines outlined in the substitute training session.
