Job Summary
The HSES Specialist, reporting to the Site HSES Manager, supports operations by implementing and maintaining Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSES) programs. This role is focused on ensuring regulatory compliance while promoting a strong safety culture that prioritizes the well-being of employees, contractors, and the environment.
Job Description
- Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HSES policies, procedures, and programs
- Promote a proactive safety culture aligned with the principle: “Do It Safely, Do It Right the First Time”
- Conduct daily plant tours and actively engage with production teams on HSES practices
- Participate in: Job Safety Analyses (JSA), Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Management of Change (MOC) processes, Pre-startup safety reviews
- Coordinate and conduct industrial hygiene monitoring activities
- Stay current with applicable regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA, DOT) and ensure compliance
- Assist with Safe Work permits and Life Saving Permits
- Provide technical HSES support for projects and daily operations, including inspections and self-assessments
- Deliver safety orientations and training for employees, contractors, and visitors
- Support chemical management, wastewater and stormwater compliance, and waste management programs
- Obtain DOT and RCRA certifications within six months of hire
- Provide on-the-floor coaching, guidance, and recognition related to HSES practices
- Assist in developing local compliance procedures and maintaining documentation systems
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement
- Lead and participate in site inspections, audits, and emergency response drills
- Conduct or support incident investigations and root cause analysis
- Track and follow up on corrective actions and contribute to HSES KPI reporting
- Manage the PPE program for employees, contractors, and visitors
Skills Required
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in occupational safety, environmental health, industrial hygiene, or a related discipline
- Ability to pass medical and physical requirements for wearing a full-face respirator (must be clean-shaven as required)
- Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds and climb ladders
- Strong passion for HSE and ability to influence and engage others
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a participative environment
- Proficiency in Google Workspace tools
- High integrity, strong work ethic, and sound judgment
- Willingness to work outside standard hours when necessary
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering, Safety, or a related field
Additional Requirements
- Preferred: Experience in HSES within the chemical or industrial manufacturing sector
- Preferred: Plant-level HSES experience
- Preferred: Knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations
- Preferred: Familiarity with HSES management systems and KPI reporting
- Preferred: Experience with SAP, particularly for procurement of safety supplies
