Essential Job Duties
The core duties and responsibilities of the Human Resources Assistant aids with and supports the human resource processes in the Human Resources department. Job duties can vary widely from day to day. The duties are related to the operations of the human resources office.
Responsibilities
• Assists with required paperwork for employee transfers, changes in job classification, salary increases, and other related employment matters.
• May assist with preparation of human resource reports such as attendance, new hire, and turnover reports.
• Administers employee benefit plan enrollments, changes and terminations. Processes required documents and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
• Performs customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions.
• Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files.
• Submits online investigation requests and assists with new-employee background checks.
• Assists with processing workplace injury reports, all applicable worker’s comp reporting
• Assists with processing of terminations.
• Assists with the preparation of the performance review process.
• Assists with recruitment and interview process. Tracks status of candidates in HRIS and responds with follow-up letters at the end of the recruiting process.
• Schedules meetings and interviews as requested by the leadership of HR.
• Makes photocopies; mails, scans and emails documents; and performs other clerical functions.
• Files documents into appropriate employee files.
• Assists or prepares correspondence as requested.
• Prepares new-employee files.
• Processes unemployment claims.
• Tracking attendance daily.
• Assists with Employee Relations and event planning.
• Assists with internal investigations.
• Prepare and conduct new hire orientations and related paperwork.
Qualifications
In order to perform their various duties, the Human Resources Assistant must exhibit many varied skills and qualifications. At the core, the Human Resources Assistant is a critical position, meaning that communications and decision-making are paramount. • Decision-making: make independent decisions on a daily basis, addressing the best way to handle specific tasks.
• Communications and collaboration: must collaborate with others and support personnel, management and clients on a regular basis.
• Organizational skills: Organization and prioritization are the core elements. You must know how to keep yourself and others organized and how to determine which tasks are the most important in a given list.
• Writing: Spelling, punctuation, sentence structure and writing are essential, must be proficient in a variety of styles, from creative to professional to technical to education and more.
• Comfortable with routinely shifting demands.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
• Customer service experience is preferred or experience with dealing with the public.
• Ability to maintain confidential information.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures.
• Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• 4 years experience in an office environment with direct work experience preferred
• 3 years experience in Human Resources preferred
Education
Must have high school diploma, GED or equivalent
Associate Degree/Bachelor’s Degree preferred in related field
