Position Summary:
The estimator's responsibilities include analyzing plans, bills of quantities and other project documentation in order to estimate costs. researching, sourcing, negotiating and obtaining the best prices and quotes from suppliers and subcontractors. The estimator shall determine estimate and determine entitlement on change orders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with Team Leaders, Project Managers and Project Accountants to evaluate relative costs and potential risks, determine the details of the project working with the project accountants to achieve the financial closeout of the project
- Analyze requirement documents, plans and specifications to gain a thorough understanding of the project
- Prepare material estimates and cost estimates for labor, products or services
- Develop and maintain relationships with company vendors and contractors to ensure timely review of change orders
- Compile and record cost savings on all change orders, report to upper management
- Understand construction contracts and make recommendations for updates and or changes to improve performance of contractors
- Uses e-Builder as the communications tool. All reporting must be inputted into that PMIS system.
- Ensures all PCO's, COs etc. are coordinated with the architects and engineers. Participates in meetings related to change orders
- Understands project scope and budgets and participates in contractor evaluations related to timeliness of change orders
- Coordinates with construction coordinators and administrators
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Key Traits & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree - Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or another related field
- Proficiency in mathematics, statistics and data analysis
- 10 years minimum experience performing estimating functions
- Report writing and strategic planning skills
- Familiarity with analyzing requirement data to develop material and cost estimates for projects
- Expertise with analytic tools, such as spreadsheets and database functions
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents
- Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional time management skills
- Experience in RS Means
- Experience in e-Builder preferred Microsoft office
Schedule Management:
- Accurate and timely review of change orders
- Meeting change order completion milestones
Contract Management
- Accurate and timely review of change orders and deliverables
- Communications Management
- Understanding when and how to bring critical issues to leadership
- Timely and accurate updates on e-Builder, other reporting tools
Financial Management
- Accuracy and timely process change orders
- Accurate project costs and forecasts
- Accurate and documented cost savings resulting from change order negotiations
