About the Role
The Supply Place at Garrett Ace Hardware is hiring an Outside Sales Representative to grow our commercial trades business across Sonoma County. You'll sell outdoor power equipment, arborist supplies, and hardware essentials to local landscapers, tree care companies, arborists, contractors, vineyards, municipalities, and property managers.
We're a family-run business rooted in the local community. Our commercial customers count on us for the right product, the right advice, and service that keeps them in the field. You'll open new accounts, deepen relationships with existing customers, and close orders out in the field. - Outdoor Power Equipment: Stihl, Husqvarna, Echo, EGO, Toro, Honda
- Arborist Supplies: Notch, Petzl, Sherrill
- Hardware & Tools: Ace Hardware lines, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Craftsman
What You'll Do
- Build and manage a book of business across landscape contractors, tree care companies, arborists, vineyard operations, municipalities, and other commercial accounts.
- Prospect new customers through cold calls, jobsite visits, referrals, and industry events.
- Conduct on-site visits to understand customer needs, demo equipment, and recommend the right products.
- Quote, close, and follow up on orders — owning the deal from first conversation to delivery.
- Handle objections without holding inventory: use product literature, manufacturer resources, supplier samples, and showroom visits to get customers comfortable enough to commit.
- Stay current on product lines, new releases, manufacturer programs, and competitor activity.
- Hit weekly and monthly activity and revenue targets.
- Maintain accurate records of accounts, contacts, and pipeline.
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of outside sales experience.
- Self-managed and disciplined: you plan your week, work your territory, and report your numbers without being chased.
- Comfortable closing without leaning on inventory on the floor — you sell on specs, demos, photos, and trust.
- Strong communication skills, with customers and internal parts/service teams.
- Clean driving record and valid CA driver's license.
- Comfortable with a CRM or willing to learn one.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of chainsaws, mowers, blowers, trimmers, arborist gear, or similar equipment.
- Familiarity with the brands we carry (Stihl, Husqvarna, EGO, Echo, etc.).
- Prior sales experience in outdoor power equipment, hardware, building supply, ag, or a related trade-facing industry.
- An established network in the local trades.
