Position

Allied Health Teacher

Location: Southern Garrett High School

FTE: Full-time

Status: Exempt

Terms: 187 workdays, generally 7.6 hours per day, but may be greater depending upon system needs

Salary: Unit I Teacher Blueprint Career Ladder Salary Scale ($60,010-$69,169) (Commensurate with education and experience)

Supervisor: Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or Director of Secondary Education

Availability: 2026-2027 School Year

Job Description

Minimum Requirements:

  • Registered nurse (RN) currently licensed in Maryland
  • Two (2) years of nursing experience, with one (1) year to include caring for the elderly/ chronically ill within the past five (5) years
  • One (1) year experience in long-term care
  • Two (2) years of teaching experience or sixteen (16) hours of instruction in the principles of adult education
  • Actual teaching experience (supervisory experience over other nurses may be considered)
  • Eligible for Maryland State Department of Education Certification
  • First Aid and CPR instructor certification
  • Understanding and enforcement of HIPPA regulations
  • Knowledge of Public Health Standards and Procedures
  • Understanding of Board of Nursing regulations and requirements (Nurse Practice Act)
  • Familiarity with Certified Nursing Assistant and Geriatric Nursing Assistant Programs
  • Familiarity with COMAR (Code of Maryland Regulations) as they apply to the CNA and GNA training programs
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, including, but not limited to, the ability to interact successfully with diverse stakeholders (i.e., students, staff, administration, parents, general public, community agencies, etc.)
  • Proficiency in a variety of technology and applications, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite
  • Successful management of confidential information and materials
  • History of initiative, discretion, and independent judgment
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job either with or without reasonable accommodations

The Allied Health Teacher Will

  • Provide a wide range of health services instruction.
  • Work with partnering agencies to provide appropriate clinical experiences.
  • Serve on local committees related to health education and Allied Health Program.
  • Maintain all school and student records as required by the program and the Board of Nursing.
  • Be trained in and deliver the Project Lead the Way Biomedical curriculum
  • Maintain classroom environment conducive to learning and in keeping with the rules and discipline policies of each high school.
  • Contribute to the short-term and long-term successes of the Superintendent, Board of Education, and school system in general.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Engage in life-long learning of professional and technical knowledge by attending appropriate workshops, reviewing professional publications and websites, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional organizations related to Allied Health and health education.
  • Present courteous and professional demeanor at all times.
  • Demonstrate proficiency, flexibility, self-motivation, accountability and ownership, and positive demeanor.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of the training program.
  • Implement the approved training program.
  • Supervise classroom laboratory experiences.
  • Evaluate student performance in the classroom.
  • Provide supervision and clinical evaluation of each trainee at the clinical training site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
