What are the responsibilities and job description for the Family Support Worker I position at Garrett County Health Department?
The main purpose of this full-time contractual position is to assist the Garrett County Health Department in the mission of promoting, protecting, and improving the health of the county citizens. The position provides in-home support services through intensive home visiting to pregnant women and children up to five years of age under the Healthy Families America home visiting program(s) to improve birth outcomes, strengthen families, cultivate nurturing parent child relationships, promote child health and developmental outcomes, promote family stability, build foundations for strong family functioning, and promote positive parenting practices. Services enable individuals to maintain independence and well-being, assist in preserving the family structure, promote functional home environments, and teach clients how to access and utilize available community resources. The position, with guidance from the program supervisor, works to improve parenting skills, reduce family stress, and meet the ongoing needs of the family unit to achieve optimal functioning. This position will also promote family and child health through education and referral. The position will collaborate with other health professionals and community agencies to support families and children's optimal health, nutrition, safety, and development.
## MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:One year of experience providing support services to children or adults through teaching and demonstrating practical living skills in order to promote and maintain independent living or assist in preserving the family structure.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
