A Heavy Equipment Operator position in Newsport News, VAis available at Garney Construction. To be considered for this position you must have previous construction experience. As an operator, you will operate machinery to perform activities such as excavating, backfilling, trenching, ditching, clearing, looming, fine grading, and final clean up. The heavy equipment operator may perform functions of a laborer as required.
- Operate heavy equipment safely as part of a crew.
- Perform Operator-level maintenance on the machine.
- Understand safe working loads and signals.
- Must be willing to work overtime as required.
- 3 to 5 years of construction experience.
- Firm knowledge of equipment operations and maintenance.
- Must be willing to work overtime as required.
- Willing to travel.

Must be able to operator and maintain an excavator.

Safe removal removal of trench boxes from an excavation.
- Experience with the backfill process, placing and compaction of lifts.

Ability to build and break down boxes as required

Load or unload trucks

Experience with proper rigging of loads.
