Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Medical Biller to join our practice. In this vital role, you will be responsible for managing the billing process for medical services, ensuring accurate coding and timely submission of claims to insurance companies and patients. Your expertise will help optimize revenue cycle management, improve cash flow, and support the overall financial health of the practice. The ideal candidate is energetic, highly organized, and possesses a strong understanding of medical billing procedures, coding systems, and medical terminology.
Duties
- Review patient records and medical documentation to ensure accurate coding using CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) coding systems.
- Prepare and submit clean claims electronically or via paper to insurance providers, government programs, and patients.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims by investigating discrepancies, appealing rejections, and resubmitting claims as necessary.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, payments received, and outstanding balances using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.
- Communicate effectively with insurance companies, patients, and healthcare providers regarding billing inquiries or issues related to medical records or payments.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and insurance policies while maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
- Assist in medical collections efforts by contacting patients for overdue balances and setting up payment plans when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing with a solid understanding of medical coding including CPT coding, ICD-9/ICD-10 coding systems, DRG classifications, and medical terminology.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for managing medical records and billing data.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare reimbursement processes, insurance claim procedures, and medical collection practices.
- Prior experience in a medical office environment is highly preferred.
- Excellent attention to detail to ensure accuracy in coding and billing submissions.
- Experience with Athena is required
Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
