Product Designer 2

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Product Designer 2 in our Olathe, KS location to join the Device Interaction team. The Device Interaction team’s mission is to provide mobile and web applications and services that are easy to use and maximize the full interaction potential of all Garmin products.

As a Product Designer, you’ll focus on the Garmin Golf App—designing experiences that help golfers of all levels elevate their play, track progress, and get the most from their Garmin products. As part of your day-to-day responsibilities, you will be involved in every aspect of the feature development process, from wireframing the next great product innovation to tweaking pixels right before launch. You will be expected to utilize your full range of user experience design, interaction design and visual design skills. A strong ability to collaborate with others is also a must. You’ll work closely with associates from various departments to research, prototype, design, present and create highly usable interaction solutions.

Essential Functions

• Leverage knowledge of UX/UI design tools such as Figma
• Take ownership of key features in a product line
• Perform user interviews and observational research
• Interpret research data to create viable solutions
• Define and design product interactions with stakeholders or partners
• Mentor less experienced user experience designers
• Demonstrate the full use of design standards and procedures in performance of essential functions
• Apply Garmin’s Mission Statement and Quality Policy and enthusiastically exhibit a desire to see Garmin succeed
• Work in cross-functional teams collaboratively and professionally with other associates to achieve our objectives and key results
• Demonstrate a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion
• Demonstrate the ability to produce solid design solutions without assistance from others
• Use effective communication skills when presenting design ideas to various disciplines or customers
• Provide reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound design thinkin
  
  
  

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design or a degree with an equivalent curriculum that teaches user centered design principles AND a minimum of 1 year relevant work experience OR a minimum of 5 years equivalent combination of education and relevant experience performing the essential functions of the Garmin Product Designer role
• Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
• 2 or more years of experience designing for web, Android, and iOS
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and cross-functional stakeholders throughout the design process (i.e., from design hypothesis to creating user flows and wireframes to the specification and build of user interface mockups and prototypes)
• A portfolio that demonstrates refined digital product design skills across multiple projects
• Proficient knowledge of usability principles
• Proficient abilities implementing a design thinking process
• Proficient knowledge of design principles
• Proficient knowledge of user interface design principles
• Proficient abilities designing screens and user interface
