We are seeking a full-time Aviation Human Factors Design Engineer Intern in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for learning and training to conceive, plan, design, implement, and report on broad system level requirements and tests for complex integrated avionics systems that span several multi-disciplinary functions including human factors.
Essential Functions
- Perform user interface reviews, system level bench testing and regression testing for software changes and assist in human factors evaluations for integrated flight deck programs and/or retrofit product lines
- Obtain an in-depth understanding of Garmin integrated avionics systems and possibly aftermarket products and mobile applications
- Learn hardware/software tools used by team and identify/make improvements for quality, efficiency, and scalability of the team services as needed
- Learn processes of team and offer suggestions or make changes to improve the processes
- Obtain basic working knowledge of Garmin aviation user interface guidelines
- Perform user interface reviews of basic software changes
- Perform usability testing of select software changes and new functionality
- Assist in maintaining system benches and flight simulator labs including software loading and configuring for different airframes
- Create software change requests that clearly define new features and functionality, identified software issues, necessary changes, and steps to recreate problems
- Assist in human factors evaluations
- Communicate status of work clearly providing visibility to supervisor or mentor and thoroughly document work in an organized manner
- Coursework in Interactive Design, Human Factors, Visual Design, Human Computer Interaction or a degree with an equivalent curriculum that teaches user centered design principles OR equivalent education or experience
- Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be positive, detail/quality oriented, organized, analytical, team oriented and a driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems
- Completed coursework in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering
- Proficient in using common rapid prototyping tools
- Pilot's Certificate with an Instrument Rating
- Background in aviation or prior interaction with pilots or flight operations
