Overview
We are seeking a full-time Aircraft Systems Engineering Technician 2 in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for providing engineering support and implementation for aircraft certification projects.
Essential Functions
- Assists with verification of proper function of installed avionics systems
- Leverages working knowledge of Garmin integration bench operations and test tools to support bench tests and ground tests on aircraft
- Competently troubleshoots, diagnoses, and corrects electrical and system problems associated with test equipment and integration benches
- Demonstrates sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities and develops solutions in a timely fashion
- Supports electrical or mechanical design teams needs as Garmin Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) project priorities require
- Demonstrates ability to work independently on moderately complex projects including interfacing with other internal/external stakeholders as required to complete objectives
- Mentors Engineering Technicians with less experience
For Technician 2 Supporting Electrical Design work:
- Leverages working knowledge of electrical wiring practices and relevant design standards to read schematics, and execute work from working diagrams and harness layout drawings of medium complexity
- Drafts system, component or assembly wiring diagrams of medium complexity with engineering oversight
- Demonstrates capability of fabricating electrical wire harness assemblies of simple to medium complexity with high quality and minimal errors with little oversight
For Technician 2 Supporting Mechanical Design work:
- Leverages working knowledge of aircraft structures and mechanical best practices, materials and relevant standards to be able to read drawings and specifications defining parts of medium complexity
- Drafts parts and assembly drawings of simple to medium complexity, with engineering oversight
- Demonstrates ability to fabricate parts and assemblies of medium complexity including sheet metal and simple machined parts
Basic Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in a related technical field (ex. Electronics Technology, Aviation Maintenance, Aeronautics, Computer Technology) AND a minimum of 5 years of experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
- For internal associates, demonstrated mastery of the responsibilities of the Aviation Systems Engineering Technician 1 role
- Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
- Must possess the ability to bend, twist and lift up to 25 lbs. while using safe lifting techniques; stand and sit for extended periods of time; routinely walk short distances; kneel, stoop crouch, and crawl in confined spaces and heights above four feet such as aircraft interiors, cockpits and other aircraft zones
- Tolerates working in extreme temperatures and noisy environments
Desired Qualifications
- Completion of AutoCAD, SolidWorks or other relevant training courses, or equivalent experience
- Experience using MS Office products (Word, Excel)
- Private Pilot’s License
- Possess intermediate knowledge of avionics including Garmin products
