Duties
- Develop engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards that cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Facilitate interactive classroom activities that promote active participation and foster a positive learning environment.
- Implement effective classroom management strategies to ensure safety, discipline, and respectful behavior among students.
- Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative evaluations, including standardized testing and informal assessments.
- Provide individualized support to students needing extra help in literacy, math, or social skills development.
- Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and parents to develop tailored educational plans for students with diverse needs, including children with autism or those requiring early intervention.
- Engage in curriculum development initiatives to keep instructional content current, relevant, and inclusive.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress reports, and behavioral incidents for administrative purposes.
GCCS Elementary Teacher Requirements and Characteristics
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education is required. Certification in Elementary Education is highly recommended. Candidates hired without certification will be required to pursue and obtain certification within the calendar year of hire.
- Ability to tackle many responsibilities and flexible to change.
- Excellent classroom management skills, promotes positive student interaction, and is engaged in each student’s well-being.
- Understands and embraces the whole child educational philosophy including the development of social-emotional skills, character development, and the arts.
- Demonstrates empathy and compassion towards students and their families.
- Ability to communicate effectively with families, colleagues, and administration.
- Knowledge of Louisiana state standards and grade level expectations and requirements.
- Completes tasks and responsibilities with a positive, diligent, and professional attitude.
- Exhibits effective time management.
- Follows assigned curriculum and scope and sequences while meeting the needs of students through creative and energetic lessons.
- Familiarity with the principles of Manners of the Heart, AmplifyCKLA and Eureka Math are a plus.
