JOB TITLE: Quality Technician (work hours are M-F 4:30pm - 3am)

DEPARTMENT: Quality

REPORTS TO: Quality Manager

SUMMARY: The primary function of this position is to collect samples from production lines, test, monitor, inspect and verify product / packaging quality and environmental conditions in process areas, perform physical and instrumentation testing and analyses, calibrate equipment, record and maintain data in a timely manner, observing all safety regulations and ensuring all GMP and quality standards are met and to sustain the efficient flow of product through the production process.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

§ Put on all required Personal Protective Equipment and Safety Gear and insure that all safety devices are functioning properly.

§ Report to assigned line and set up scale and test equipment and assist with production line set-up as needed.

§ Perform pre-operation inspections (SQF), and line checks to verifying and inspect that production standards are met

§ Complete first piece testing at start-up and change-overs as required and send samples to the lab.

§ Obtain ingredient, product and packaging samples (corn, masa, chips, labels, bags) from production lines, place products on worktable, record net weight, size, temperature, visually inspect product / packaging identify defective and non-conforming product / packaging and take appropriate corrective action as required.

§ Perform physical and instrumentation testing and analyses of ingredients and finished products.

§ Initiate and complete QA Hold process for off-specification products and WIPs and aid in the sampling and disposition of held materials.

§ Complete environmental monitoring, equipment swabbing and inspections and maintenance of production and QA/QC documents.

§ Enter all testing results and other related data into the computer database.

§ Communicate test results with QA Management in a timely manner.

§ Monitor production process, tools, equipment and employees to ensure all GMP and all other sanitation procedures for handling food products are met and maintained.

§ Assist production personnel as required.(see specific production JFA’s for details)

§ Keep work area and storage areas clear, clean and organized and place trash / non-conforming product in proper receptacles.

§ Complete other related duties as assigned or directed by the Supervisor, at end of shift, perform general housekeeping as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Education and Experience:

§ Must have high school diploma or proof of GED

§ Must have one (1) year related experience in food processing.

§ Must have good verbal and written communication skills.

§ Must have basic math and computer skills, knowledge / familiar with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn the JD Edwards inventory system.

§ Must be able to stand and walk for extended period of time.

§ Must complete “Lock-out / Tag-out” awareness training.

§ Must know MSDS information regarding all materials used within the scope of the work.

· Skills and Competencies:

§ Must be able to read, write and effectively with co-workers and management as it relates to the job and the safety regulations.

§ Must be able to use, or learn to use, the equipment and tools used to perform the job and perform all job functions safely.

§ Must meet the company performance standards for the job.

§ Must participate in company orientation and training.

§ Must submit to background check, mandatory drug testing and not possess any significant criminal record.

§ Must be able to work the scheduled / assigned times and required overtime for the position.

Must ensure all GMP, SQF and quality standards are met.
