Job Purpose and Objectives
The job of Teach Apprentice is to actively work under the guidance of an experienced teacher to gain hands-on experience, receive mentorship, and complete the necessary coursework to become certified teachers.
Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent; ability to enroll in a teacher education program in Kansas
Clearances: Kansas Certification of Health; Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
Essential Functions include the following.
- Assist lead teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom setup
- Support individual and small-group student learning during instructional time
- Collaborate in lesson planning aligned with district curriculum and goals
- Co-deliver lessons, lead classroom discussions, and practice instructional techniques
- Monitor student behavior and promote a safe, respectful learning environment
- Assist in grading and providing feedback on assignments and assessments
- Participate in district and program-specific professional development
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance and student work portfolios
- Communicate regularly with mentor teacher and participate in coaching conversations
- Follow all district policies and KSDE guidelines as an apprentice under supervision
- Contribute to a positive school culture and demonstrate professionalism at all times

- Basic knowledge of classroom instructional practices
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain organization
- Patience, empathy, and a growth mindset
- Commitment to ongoing learning and reflective practice
- Ability to work under the mentorship of a licensed, experienced teacher
- Familiarity with educational technology and tools (preferred)
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 15% sitting, 25% walking, and 60% standing. The job is performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
