What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm Worker's and Laborers, Crop position at GARBER FARMS?
Job will involve handling boxes of plants both empty and full to load planters. Planting, rouging and harvesting of sweet potatoes. Some work is done in the plant beds which includes cutting & loading the sweet potato plants, some workers will sit on the planting machinery and feed the plants on to the device which turns and places the plants into the ground. Other workers are used to walk behind the planting machinery to spot plant where the machinery did not function properly. Roughing the fields, repairing and or building storage bins with wood materials, as well as sorting and packing will be continuous between planting and harvesting. When harvest begins, workers will ride on a harvester that mechanically digs two rows of potatoes simultaneously. Workers will remove the potatoes from the vines, sort and place on a conveyor, job involves lifting up to 50 LBS. Frequent and repetitive stooping, standing, walking and reaching. Workers may at times be involved in operating machinery and equipment used in planting , harvesting, sorting and packing. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Employers may require post hire or random drug testing at no cost to worker. Testing positive or failure to comply may result in immediate termination from employment. 1-2 months similar farm experience required. Full time supervision and all tools are provided. H-2A workers who use employer-provided housing at no cost, will be offered a wage rate of $8.24 per hour. Employer reserves the right to pay more depending upon performance and other company needs.
