RESIDENTIAL GARAGE DOOR INSTALLER ROLE SUMMARY

The Residential Garage Door Installer is responsible for delivering clean, accurate, and safe garage door and opener installations that homeowners can rely on for years to come. Your job is to measure carefully, install correctly, handle technical issues as they come up on the job, and leave every home looking better than you found it. You are a trusted part of the team, known for quality workmanship, attention to detail, and consistent follow-through. OBJECTIVES

  • Install new residential garage doors, openers, hardware, springs, and accessories to manufacturer specifications and company standards
  • Complete custom residential installations including high-lift conversions, low headroom applications, zero clearance setups, and vertical track installations
  • Diagnose and complete general garage door repairs as needed during install visits, including springs, cables, rollers, tracks, hinges, sensors, and opener issues
  • Accurately measure openings, evaluate site conditions, and confirm material requirements before each install
  • Properly balance doors, set spring tension, and verify safe operation before leaving the job site
  • Program and test openers, sensors, remotes, keypads, and smart home integrations
  • Walk every homeowner through the operation of their new system and answer questions clearly and patiently
  • Pick up where the service technician left off when a service call converts to an install, including reviewing the technician's notes, confirming the scope of work, and walking the homeowner through any final details or add-on opportunities at the time of install
  • Identify and recommend appropriate upgrades or accessories when they genuinely benefit the homeowner
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and well-stocked install vehicle, including proper care of tools, parts, and company equipment
  • Complete job documentation, invoices, photos, and customer notes accurately and on time through HouseCall Pro
  • Follow all company procedures, safety standards, and manufacturer specifications while working in residential environments
  • Leave every garage and driveway cleaner than you found it
  • Collaborate with dispatch, leadership, and teammates to support scheduling efficiency, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement

COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to measure accurately and identify the correct parts and hardware for each install, including custom and non-standard applications
  • Demonstrated experience with high-lift conversions, low headroom installations, zero clearance setups, and vertical track installations
  • Technical expertise in general garage door repair, including diagnosis and replacement of springs, cables, rollers, tracks, panels, hinges, sensors, and openers
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort with hand tools, power tools, and install rigging
  • Comfort working with openers, sensors, wall controls, remotes, and basic low-voltage wiring
  • Strong focus on accuracy, safety, alignment, balance, tension, and clean final presentation
  • Ability to lead a two-person install when needed and work efficiently solo when appropriate
  • Comfortable picking up an estimate left by the service technician and carrying the customer relationship through to a clean, completed install
  • Consistently arrives prepared, completes work as promised, and communicates clearly when circumstances change
  • Understands and respects the risks associated with springs, cables, heavy doors, tools, ladders, and moving mechanical systems
  • Able to lift and move heavy materials, work in varied positions, and perform hands-on install work throughout the day
  • Maintains a clean appearance, organized workspace, honest recommendations, and respect for the customer's home
  • Ability to record job details, parts used, photos, and customer approvals clearly and accurately
  • Works well with dispatch, managers, and other installers by sharing updates, asking questions, and supporting company standards

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required
  • 3 years of dedicated residential garage door install experience required
  • Demonstrated experience with custom residential installations including high-lift, low headroom, zero clearance, and vertical track applications
  • Technical expertise in general residential garage door repair and diagnostics required
  • Comfortable confirming scope, presenting add-on options, and earning the customer's decision in the home
  • Commercial garage door and dock experience helpful but not required
  • Applicants must be centrally located or located in the West Valley
  • Valid Arizona driver's license and clean driving record
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug screen

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, talk, hear, climb, stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • Willingness to be on rotational on-call coverage
  • Ability to work overtime including occasional weekends
  • Requires ability to occasionally lift up to 75 lbs
  • Position requires daily travel to and from residential field sites throughout the West Valley

COMPENSATION

  • Guaranteed weekly pay floor on every scheduled week of work
  • Weekly and monthly performance bonuses included as part of the company compensation plan
  • Structured onboarding compensation during your first two weeks
  • Realistic first-year earnings of $75,000–$120,000 for experienced installers, with no cap on commissions
