Job Description

Position Objective: Provide services as a Senior Science Program Manager in support of the NHLBI Immediate Office of the Director (IOD), the Office of Workforce Development and Support (OWDS) and the NHLBI Office of Management (OM) in developing and achieving Institute Director communication goals and aiding in coordination of key scientific initiatives.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Independently provide support services to lead presentation content development for the NHLBI Director and lead editorial review with the Assistant Director’s (AD) team in preparation for the NHLBI Director’s internal/external engagements (e.g., Council/BEE, invited talks).
  • Provide scientific guidance, program/project management assistance, and/or coordination of activities for scientific initiatives (e.g., RECOVER, SEAL, etc.).
    • The NHLBI Director is the face of the institute and represents the institute’s interests, values, and mission to the public, academia, and other government entities.
    • Because of the high visibility of this role, the Director’s presentations must be of the highest quality.
    • Report to Dr. Leah Miller, Director, Office of Workforce Development and Support (OWDS)OWDS, OM, NHLBI.
  • The primary objective is to provide services and deliverables through the performance of support services.
  • Lead the development and preparation of NHLBI Director scientific talks and presentations.
  • Communicate orally and in writing in a clear, accurate, organized, and concise manner.
  • Properly interpret and provide technical advice and timely summaries of relevant scientific information to support IC Director presentation content development.
  • Maintain a report matrix that documents the status of each presentation, and an IOD/OM strategic calendar for action and decision-tracking.
  • Monitor the status of NHLBI’s agendas to ensure that they are progressing on time and according to plan.
  • Facilitate communication among the AD, IOD, OWDS, and appropriate stakeholders by providing information about presentation development and serving as a resource for general inquiries.
  • Create and manage program/project schedules and/or deliverables.
  • Assist with program management and planning for key scientific initiatives (e.g., contribute to workgroup actions, aid in planning workshops, stay abreast of initiative activities, etc.) and/or offer recommendations for program/project management excellence.
  • Alert IOD and OM management as accountability reports or deadlines come due.
  • Provide documentation evidence of any and/or all work products, including, but not limited to:
    • Work products and documents related to developing and coordinating presentations/talking points; plan, initiate, monitor, and conduct analyses; maintain calendars, Teams site and presentation matrix/tracking sheet.
    • Work products and documents related to presentation content development, including drafts of communication products submitted in accordance with editorial process for edits and revisions as well as final communication products submitted (copy ready). The contractor shall also archive communication products in appropriate Drives, sites, etc.
    • Work products and documents related to identifying changes in program/scientific initiative direction and operation; review documentation for compliance; conduct literature reviews and online searches to support presentation content development or scientific initiative.
    • Work products and documents related to preparing scientific talks and presentations.
    • Work products and documents related to facilitating communications; preparing meeting materials; participating in the preparation of progress reports and PowerPoint presentations or scientific workgroups.
Basic Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in a science-related discipline or field or Three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree which is equivalent to a Ph.D. or Five (5) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor’s degree which is equivalent to a Ph.D.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in relevant field
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) and web-based applications.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines.
