Position Objective: The Biologist will provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Institute on Aging within the National Institutes of Health.

- Develop and maintain liaisons and effective working relations with groups and individuals, agencies, and the public to encourage

- Monitor and observe experiments, recording production and test data for evaluation by research personnel
- Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings
- Collect and analyze biological data about relationships among and between organisms and their environment
- Work with biological technicians and technologists and other scientists
- Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photometers, or computer-controlled analyzers

- Perform animal experiments with live animals to include anesthesia, microsurgery, blood and serum collection; assist in performing sophisticated experiments. 2
- Perform cloning, DNA/RNA extractions, plasmid transfections. 3
- Perform tissue embedding, frozen section and paraffin preps, H and E staining, cell culture, confocal imaging.

- Perform data analyses of images and advanced statistics (autocorrelation functions, power spectrum).
- Apply a wide range of conventional, established approaches, methods, techniques and solutions to new situations; identify/recommend resolution of discrepancies; recommend/

- Maintain an accurate research tracking system and database for research activities; keep accurate records of daily experiments and results including research documentation.
- Prepare reports, Excel spreadsheets, and PowerPoint slides for presentation and/or publication; write and edit scientific papers.
- Attend weekly laboratory information meetings; participate in lab/unit/section meetings by presenting ongoing research and findings; present paper/abstract/poster at scientific meetings/conferences when appropriate.
- Operate and perform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment; obtain quotes and prepare purchase requests for supplies, instruments and equipment; submit to primary investigator and/or laboratory manager for approval and procurement.
- Lead clinical research projects related to COVID-19 and other aging-related disease projects, draft protocols for government approval and implementation regarding clinical research projects for the lab, interact with hospital personnel to procure clinical samples, tracking patients over time, maintain patient sample tracking and storage .
- Build up a histopathology form containing basic information about patients and their samples.

- Perform histologic quality assurance of the tissue, ensuring that the samples meet high standards for research purposes
- Perform human sample analysis and pathological diagnosis, identifying and classifying age/gender groups, and collecting and analyzing biological data
- Develop specific long-term storage methods for human samples, ensuring that the samples are stored properly and can be used for future research.
- Make a human tissue sample tracking system for future clinical research and sample requests by collaborators.
- Write clinical sample management reports, present the clinical research progress, and publish the results in clinical related journals.
- Investigate the mechanisms of Type 1 Diabetes and the effects on the human body.
- Mentor students and colleagues, particularly pre/medical students, on clinical research and assist in the study of basic principles of animal life.

Salary : $145,000 - $155,000
