Pool Attendant / Lifeguard
Pay: $20.00 per hour

Join the iconic rooftop team at Gansevoort Meatpacking NYC, where luxury hospitality meets one of Manhattan's premier rooftop pool experiences. We are seeking a certified Pool Attendant / Lifeguard who is passionate about guest safety, exceptional service, and creating memorable experiences in a Forbes-level luxury environment.
As a Pool Attendant/Lifeguard, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and overall guest experience at our rooftop pool while delivering warm, personalized hospitality that reflects the Gansevoort brand.
What You'll Do
Guest Safety & Lifeguarding
- Maintain constant surveillance of the pool and surrounding deck to ensure guest safety.
- Respond immediately to emergencies by performing water rescues, CPR, AED, First Aid, and other emergency procedures as needed.
- Enforce all pool safety rules, hotel policies, and health regulations.
- Monitor guests for unsafe behavior, signs of distress, intoxication, or medical emergencies.
- Never leave the pool unattended without approved coverage.
- Contact Emergency Medical Services (EMS) when required and complete all incident documentation.
Luxury Guest Service
- Welcome guests warmly and provide Forbes Five-Star service throughout their visit.
- Anticipate guest needs and deliver personalized hospitality.
- Assist with lounge chairs, umbrellas, towels, daybeds, and seating arrangements.
- Answer questions regarding hotel amenities, rooftop facilities, operating hours, and local attractions.
- Professionally resolve guest concerns and escalate issues when appropriate.
- Support VIP arrivals, rooftop events, and high-volume service periods.
Pool Operations
- Verify access for registered hotel guests and authorized visitors.
- Monitor pool occupancy and maintain compliance with capacity limits.
- Issue, organize, and replenish towels.
- Complete opening, operating, and closing procedures.
- Maintain daily pool logs, inspection reports, and safety documentation.
- Participate in emergency drills and ongoing safety training.
Facility Maintenance
- Keep the pool deck, furniture, cabanas, and surrounding areas clean, organized, and guest-ready.
- Remove towels, trash, glassware, food service items, and other debris throughout the day.
- Inspect pool equipment, gates, drains, furniture, and walkways for safety hazards.
- Report maintenance issues, damaged equipment, or water quality concerns immediately.
- Coordinate with Housekeeping, Engineering, Security, Front Office, and Food & Beverage teams to ensure an exceptional guest experience.
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Current Lifeguarding Certification.
- Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (must remain active throughout employment).
- Strong customer service and hospitality skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Calm decision-making during emergency situations.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining constant awareness of guest safety.
- Professional appearance consistent with luxury hospitality standards.
- Flexible schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous lifeguard experience.
- Experience in a luxury hotel, resort, country club, or hospitality environment.
- Knowledge of Forbes Five-Star service standards.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Swim, dive, and perform physically demanding water rescues.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 60 pounds.
- Bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Maintain continuous visual awareness of the pool area.
- Work in sun, heat, humidity, and around pool chemicals while remaining alert and professional.
