As a representative of Gannon University, Transition Guides will be expected to enhance the student experience by promoting learning and development through engagement, fostering community among small groups, and encouraging a culture of dialogue and understanding.

- Leadership - the student will use their personal and co-facilitators’ strengths to lead the classroom and meet the goals of the program.
- Communication - the student will effectively exchange information, ideas, facts, and perspectives with those in their classroom.
- Professionalism – the student will be representing the university and must demonstrate effective work habits and act in the interest of the larger community and workplace.
- Teamwork - the student will work with a co-facilitator and will have to build and maintain a relationship together to work towards a common goal and shared responsibilities.
The Transition Guide (TG) serves as Gannon University’s first point of contact with our first-year students. As a representative of Gannon University, Transition Guides will be expected to enhance the student experience by promoting learning and development through engagement, fostering community among small groups, and encouraging a culture of dialogue and understanding.
Specifically, duties related to the Transition Guide position include, but are not limited to:
- Being present, engaged, and committed to the training process which includes:
- Summer Transition Guide kick-off meeting: TBD
- Summer Transition Guide Training: July 6-9, 2026
- Summer Orientation Sessions: July 10, 16, 18, 20
- Serving as a small-group facilitator for 10-16 students during all Orientation sessions
- Serving as a peer mentor during the transition process by supporting our students holistically, communicating information and connecting them to university resources
- Modeling a positive attitude and growth mindset when portraying Gannon University’s programs, policies & procedures
- Assisting with setup and administrative tasks as needed
- Being fully present for setup days (the day prior to each Orientation session)
Minimum Qualifications:
In order to be considered as a candidate, you must:
- Have attended Gannon University for at least 1 semester prior to July 2026
- Be enrolled as a full-time, undergraduate student for the Fall 2025 semester
- Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Be able to be self-sufficient in assigned tasks, as well as collaborate effectively in a new community of professional and peer staff
- Be able to uphold and support the Gannon University Mission
- Be eligible to work in the United States with no restrictions
