Job Overview
The Gamut School has an immediate opening for a STEM teacher. This position provides a student centered, supportive classroom for students who benefit from small class sizes and individualized support. The ideal candidate promotes resourcefulness, critical thinking, self awareness, and inclusion while addressing the individual academic and emotional needs of each student. The candidate will inspire students in grades 6-8 through engaging lessons in mathematics and science, fostering a love for learning and critical thinking skills. This role requires a strong foundation in various mathematical concepts, scientific principles, and effective classroom management strategies. The teacher will be responsible for developing curriculum, lesson planning, and assessing student progress while creating a supportive learning environment.
Duties
- Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that align with Next Generation Standards for math and science subjects including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Calculus, Chemistry, Biology, Earth Science etc.
- Utilize learning technology to enhance instructional delivery and student engagement.
- Conduct laboratory experiments and dissections to provide hands-on learning experiences.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively to create a positive learning atmosphere.
- Assess student performance through standardized testing and provide tutoring as needed to support individual learning needs.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development and instructional design to improve educational outcomes.
- Mentor students in academic advising and support their growth in both math and science disciplines.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with parents regarding academic performance.
Experience
- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree is required for consideration, as well as a higher level Math and/or Science background.
- Previous experience teaching in a special education school (preferred)
- Solid subject matter knowledge in a majority of these areas: Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and possibly Statistics at grade levels 6-12.
- The ideal candidate is outgoing, well organized, competent in basic computer skills, and is an individual who is eager to work in a highly dynamic, energetic school setting.
- Excellent communication skills are required for effective interaction with students, parents, and staff members.
