Game Store Associate / Community Specialist

The Gamers Grotto is a locally owned game store committed to building a welcoming, inclusive community for gamers of all kinds. We support everything from collectible card games and tabletop strategy to video games and Warhammer. Our store is both a retail space and an in‑store play area where players gather to play, trade, and connect.
Position Overview
The Game Store Associate / Community Specialist is the face of our store and a key part of growing our local gaming community. This role combines retail operations, product knowledge, customer engagement, and event support. Ideal candidates are passionate about games, enjoy helping others, and are excited to foster an active in‑store play environment.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Experience and Sales
- Provide friendly, knowledgeable service to customers of all ages and experience levels
- Assist customers with product recommendations, including:
- Collectible Card Games (Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Yu‑Gi‑Oh!)
- Board Games and Tabletop Role‑Playing Games
- Video games and accessories
- Warhammer miniatures, paints, and supplies
- Accurately process sales, returns, and store credit
- Educate customers on rules, gameplay, and product options as needed
Trade‑In and Inventory Management
- Evaluate and process trade‑ins for games, cards, and accessories following store guidelines
- Maintain organized, clean, and well‑stocked shelves and displays
- Assist with inventory counts, pricing, and restocking
- Keep trade‑in inventory clean, sorted, and accurately labeled
Play Space and Event Support
- Set up, manage, and break down in‑store play spaces
- Support scheduled events such as:
- Trading card game tournaments
- Board game nights
- Game nights and leagues
- Ensure the play area is safe, clean, and welcoming
- Enforce store and event rules respectfully and professionally
Community Building
- Create a positive, inclusive environment for all players
- Encourage new players and help onboard beginners
- Promote upcoming events, leagues, and new product releases
- Represent The Gamers Grotto professionally in person and, when applicable, online or on social media
Qualifications and Skills
- Strong passion for gaming, especially CCGs, board games, video games, or Warhammer
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Retail or customer service experience preferred
- Basic math and cash‑handling abilities
- Comfortable learning and explaining game rules and products
- Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced retail environment
- Reliable, punctual, and team‑oriented
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry boxes up to approximately 40 lbs
- Fine motor skills for handling cards, miniatures, and small components
Pay: From $15.00 per hour
