Duties
- Assist with patient intake, including collecting medical histories, verifying insurance information, and updating electronic health records (EHR systems).
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates to support accurate diagnosis and treatment.
- Prepare patients for examinations by explaining procedures, positioning them appropriately, and ensuring comfort throughout their visit.
- Support physicians with clinical tasks such as administering medications, performing basic life support (BLS), and assisting with minor procedures or X-ray imaging.
- Manage medical documentation accurately, including ICD coding for diagnoses and procedures to ensure proper billing and record-keeping.
- Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of clinical areas and equipment in compliance with health standards.
- Provide excellent patient service by answering questions, addressing concerns, and ensuring a positive experience during each visit.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and patient care principles across outpatient, inpatient, emergency medicine, and specialized areas such as dermatology or geriatrics.
- Experience working in hospital medicine, urgent care centers, Level I or Level II trauma centers, or other high-acuity environments like PICU or OR settings.
- Proficiency with EHR systems for documentation, scheduling, and billing purposes.
- Ability to perform clinical skills including intake assessments, vital signs collection, medication administration, and basic X-ray procedures.
- Familiarity with ICD coding standards and hospital experience related to medical-surgical or internal medicine units.
- Knowledge of emergency protocols including Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; experience in hospital or trauma center settings is highly desirable.
- Excellent patient service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations across outpatient clinics or inpatient wards.
- Ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced environments such as urgent care clinics or Level I trauma centers while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
