Role & Responsibilities
- Support the day-to-day execution of communications strategies for Excel athlete clients.
- Draft and edit communications materials including press releases, media pitches, interview briefs and fact sheets.
- Research and build targeted media lists aligned with athlete initiatives, announcements, charitable efforts, and events.
- Assist with campaigns through proactive pitching, storytelling, and media outreach.
- Coordinate logistics and support athlete participation in media tours and press opportunities in New York.
- Develop player biographies that integrate career highlights and statistics.
- Pitch athletes for earned media opportunities across sports, lifestyle, entertainment, and philanthropic outlets.
- Provide operational support including interview tracking, coverage monitoring, and shared calendar coordination.
- Under senior team guidance, manage inbound media inquiries and assist with proactive announcement planning.
- Build and maintain strong working relationships with media contacts and influencers.
- Conduct daily media monitoring reports
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, sports management, or a related field.
- 2-3 years of internship or full-time experience in the communications department of a sports league, professional or college sports team, or the sports division of a PR agency preferred.
- Proven track record of ability to pitch and secure media coverage across all types of media.
- Media relationships commensurate with experience.
- Strong knowledge of professional sports, especially basketball, football, and baseball.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling ability.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
