As a Senior CNC Mill-Turn Operator (B-Axis / Dual-Spindle) you will operate a production mill-turn platform: the DN Solutions (Doosan) PUMA SMX3100ST - a Fanuc-controlled dual-spindle mill-turn center with B-axis milling and up to 9 axes of simultaneous motion, depending on configuration, equipped with advanced live-tooling capabilities. Responsibilities include maintaining a clean workstation, overseeing this machine, and handling complex tasks. Duties include monitoring the machine or machines during a production run to ensure properly produced parts, inspecting dimensions and features of the machined part while keeping the machine running at an optimal pace for production requirements.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Operate and monitor a Fanuc-controlled, dual-spindle mill-turn center (DN Solutions / Doosan PUMA SMX3100ST) in an aerospace production environment.
- Perform multi-axis machining operations utilizing B-axis milling, Y-axis machining, live tooling, and synchronized spindle operation, including part transfer between spindles.
- Interpret and apply engineering drawings, GD&T, and work instructions to produce flight-critical components in compliance with aircraft quality standards.
- Manage tooling, offsets, and in-process inspection to maintain tight tolerances (±0.001” and finer where specified) across complete, single-setup machining cycles.
- Identify machining or process issues and collaborate with engineering and quality teams to support root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience operating and setting up multi-axis mill-turn equipment, including dual-spindle machines with live tooling (B-axis experience strongly preferred).
- Proven ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&T and translate requirements into repeatable, production-ready machining processes.
- Solid working knowledge of lathe and milling fundamentals, including tooling selection, workholding principles, and process sequencing in a mill-turn environment.
- Hands-on experience with tool offsets, wear compensation, and in-process inspection, using indicators, probes, and precision measuring instruments to maintain tight tolerances.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify machining, tooling, or process issues and support corrective actions in a regulated aerospace manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical or secondary education in machining or CNC operations, or equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, concentration, and precision required for multi-axis machining of tight-tolerance aerospace components.
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T, and communicate effectively with engineering and quality teams.
- Proven problem-solving skills in a CNC manufacturing environment, including troubleshooting tooling, setup, or process issues.
- Light CNC programming or on-machine editing experience, with solid foundational knowledge of manual machining and general shop practices.
Personal attributes that support your success:
- High intellectual curiosity, entrepreneurial, creative thinker and problem-solver, fast learner, with demonstrated initiative.
- High level of maturity and ability to work in a team setting or independently.
- Willing to roll up your sleeves to help drive results.
- Unquestionable ethics and personal integrity.
